Why is my dashboard not giving me the option to erase some posts?

I would like to erase some old posts but when I go to posts there is neither a box to the left of my posts nor the option to erase them or put them in the trash. If I can’t erase them is there a way of unpublishing my blog and exporting my posts I want to save elsewhere and then erasing the blog? THis is happening on both of my older blogs.
