Why is my "Domain not pointing to WordPress.com"?
-
In 2011 I purchased http://www.footballorigins.com and all was fine until it suddenly stopped working. If I go to My Upgrades, I am told that:
“Status: Expired on December 18, 2013
This upgrade expired on December 18, 2013
Domain not pointing to WordPress.com
This domain is currently unlocked and could be pending a transfer, if you have started the domain transfer process you will need to complete the renewal with your new registrar.”I have no idea what this new registrar thing is supposed to be. Who is my new registrar and why has it changed, and why was I not informed of this?
I have tried all the different instructions with no success. I purchased this domain from wordpress.com and have not made any changes to my account or transferred it anywhere.
I have temporarily purchased a new site at http://www.football-origins.com, but this is no good, as the different links to my site all use the old name that no longer seems to exist. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It says here that the blog I need help with is football-origins.com. This not correct, I need help with footballorigins.com (without the hyphen)

About a month ago, my http://www.footballorigins.com page simply opened on a GoDaddy homepage. I have never had any dealings with GoDaddy nor have any intention of doing so. Why have they hijacked my domain purchased from WordPress?
Now my site is active again, no mention of GoDaddy, but not correctly. Only a bit of unformatted text, not the proper website.
Whatever I do I just come back to being told that “This domain is currently unlocked and could be pending a transfer, if you have started the domain transfer process you will need to complete the renewal with your new registrar.”
I have never made any attempt to transfer my domain to any new registrar. I was quite happy the ways things were. Until now…

Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, we no longer control the domain footballorigins.com as it was expired and lost in a GoDaddy domain auction. At this time, I cannot renew it for you. I see that another domain was added: football-origins.com recently. Currently your site is mapped to this new domain.
I removed the expired domain upgrade from your account to avoid further confusion.
We attempted to inform your domain’s expiration (via email and dashboard notices). It was possible to recover the domain for some weeks after its expiration, but because of the time lapsed, the domain was sent back to the registrar who then sold it to a new owner. This support article describes the expiration process in detail, if you are interested:
Here is the publicly available contact information of the new domain owner:
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=footballorigins.com
You could try contacting them to see if they will sell the domain to you. Please be sure to use a reputable online purchasing site for this transaction, if it happens.
I am sorry I was not able to help you more in this case.

So my domain now belongs to some geezer called Anton Komickiy
in Belarus? And I have to pay him to get it back??? Or pay him not to get it back, because I have no idea what this scam-artist is up to.I have just found that you did send me emails reporting this might happen, but gmail sent them straight to my spam box, so I never saw them. You should probably sort this out, because it sucks…

Hi Mike,
That is the owner of the domain as he bought it once your domain expired in an auction. You can message him about selling it back to you, but that would be up to him.
As for the email, we at WordPress.com cannot control where our email ends up. This is an issue with the spam filter with your email provider. You need to whitelist WordPress.com in the spam system on your account. Many spam filters can sometime be overly aggressive.
