Why is my domain still mapping to WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

I signed up for WordPress.com without knowing the difference between .com and .org. I upgraded my account so I could start mapping my domain to WordPress. I’ve since realized the difference and wanted to stop mapping my domain to WordPress and actually keep the hosting with GoDaddy. It would be nice to get some money back, but I’m not worried about that here. What concerns me is that now I can’t do any editing to my website because it still seems to be pointing to WordPress. I undid the all the DNS stuff and deleted the .com from my WordPress account, but I must have done something in the wrong order because it is still pointing to WordPress. I know that it can sometimes take time for everything to go back to normal, but when I tried things the other way it only took about two hours. Should I just wait it out for a few days or did I do something wrong that needs fixing in some other way?

The big worry is that now it seems like my site is in limbo. It comes up with the WordPress “cannot be found” and nothing else. I’m still paying for services through WordPress AND GoDaddy, so I’m pretty frustrated to not have a functioning site, as I’m sure you can imagine.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

What was the domain which you had pointed at us and which you’ve now pointed back at GoDaddy.com? It’s not showing up in our system and so I can’t really tell what’s going wrong for you!

If I had to guess though, there’s one of two things:

    1) You may not have changed your nameservers back to GoDaddy’s. You would need to make that change in the Domain Manager in your GoDaddy account.

    2) Your browser is just caching old information, which is why it’s pulling up WordPress.com’s servers still. You can try a different browser, or you can clear your cache and cookies using the instructions here:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

In either case, I’ve gone ahead and refunded you the full amount which you spent with us. You were already outside or normal refund period, but we want people to be happy with our products, and if you’re not even using them then you wouldn’t be happy! :)

You should be seeing the full $99 appearing back on your billing statement here in the next few days. I hope you have a great week!
