why is my dropdown menu disappearing on rollover?
-
dropdown menu disappears on rollover but only for blog using Twenty Ten theme and viewing on Firefox. This started to happen a few days ago. I have cleared my cache, re-started Firefox, rebooted. I see that there are fixes discussed for this problem on the WordPress.org forum, and also on the WP.com forum, but I can’t apply these as I don’t have rights to fiddle with the css. This must be affecting a lot of WP.com blogs.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I’m seeing your dropdown menu fine in FF 22 so I wonder if there’s something else going on. Screenshot:

To rule out interference from an add-on, could please try running Firefox in safe mode and let me know if the menu works normally? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your response.
I have just tried using FF 22 in safe mode, and the same problem occurs.
However, I now realise that in both normal mode and in safe mode, if I move my cursor REALLY quickly down from the black menu bar down into the dropdown list, the dropdown list does NOT disappear. If I move my cursor down at a normal rate, ie the rate I would expect anyone exploring my site to move, the dropdown list disappears.
Between the menu bar and the dropdown list there is some white space. I gather from the various WP.org forum entries about this problem that they also had the white space, and they also reported that if you move your cursor really fast, the dropdown list does not disappear. So my problem sounds just like what they reported, only they had more control and could fix the problem.
I just tried Control minus sign to make the text smaller to see if it would make the white space smaller, but it got bigger. I then made the text larger, to the point where the gap disappeared, and the dropdown list no longer disappears. I appreciate that this suggests that I can work around the problem by fiddling with my settings, but is there something that can be addressed in the Twenty Ten design that will eliminate this problem once and for all?
Many thanks -
Hi there, several staff members have tried your drop-down menus, and they work fine for us in Firefox 22, both on Mac and PC, with no need to do any fancy footwork to use them.
You definitely shouldn’t be needing to fiddle with any of your settings to use your menus. :-)
Would you try clearing the Firefox cache to see anything changes? It’s possible that your browser has a corrupt file in its cache, so let’s rule that out:

Thanks!

Hi
I had cleared the cache before raising the issue with you. I’ve already fiddled with my settings now, so I guess there’s no point in clearing my cache now…
Thx -
Between the menu bar and the dropdown list there is some white space.
Would it be possible to upload a screenshot of what you describe above, to help in troubleshooting? (I’m not seeing any whitespace on this end, as you can see in my previous screenshot.)
Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
You can upload the screenshot in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks!

Ah, I have found out why this problem has started to show up. I set ‘zoom text only’ to check on accessibility and didn’t unset it….apologies.
Here is the screen shot in my media library:
WP_LHG_gap_under_menu_zoom_textStill, I wonder if this problem should be addressed on Twenty Ten as I presume it has lots of users.
Thanks again -
Glad you found the culprit.
I just tested zooming on text only in Firefox and enlarged the text to quite a large size – and the menu still worked.
I would be interested in seeing your screenshot, but could you please post it in a graphic format, rather than as a Word document? PDF, PNG, JPG, GIF, etc. Thanks!

Thanks – I see it! Could you guide me through the exact steps you took to get that gap to appear so I can try to replicate it, since I haven’t been able to so far?

In the Windows 7 Control Panel/Display, I have text size set at Medium.
In FF, I checked Zoom text only. The problem occurs if I then use Control minus to reduce the text size.
If I uncheck Zoom text only, the problem does not occur, even if I repeatedly use Control minus (or control plus).
I can’t bring myself to test MSIE or Chrome, etc for this problem!

Hi there, thanks for describing your process. If a user has a visual impairment, they would normally be increasing the size of the text, rather than reducing it. For this reason, I don’t think this is an issue likely to affect accessibility for users.
Thanks for helping us get to the bottom of the issue.
