Why is my email header info displaying in comments when I reply to a comment by email? This started

Can you let me know what kind of phone you have, what version of Android you’re running, and what email app you use on your phone? I can try to find out if there was a change on that end that might have changed your email app’s behavior.
Nothing has changed on our end — your email app should use the “reply-to” email address, which is the specific email address for the comment (rather than the general comment-reply address). I’m not sure why your email app is using the general “from” email address instead.
-
I tried to respond to this message by phone and it didn’t post the reply here either.
I am using a Moto X, Android 4.4.4, native email app version 4.4.4-26.

Thanks for those details. I looked into this and found that there are a number of reports of Android’s native email app ignoring the “reply to” email address on emails (that’s the comment-specific email address that makes sure your comment is received and processed) and sending emails to the “from” address instead. If your email app sends to the “from” address, that’s the generic, default comment-reply address and it won’t work as expected.
I’d recommend contacting Motorola support or trying out a different email app to see if you get better results that way — you’ll need to make sure your email app respects the “reply to” email address in order to reply directly from your phone.

Can you continue to look into the email header issue with replies via email (desktop)? My original issue? I am still having to strip all the personal info out of each comment.
I find it odd that all of this happened on the same day.

Were you able to try switching between Rich Text and Plain Text in your regular email client? As I mentioned earlier I’m not able to test directly with Yahoo mail through ATT, but I found these instructions for making that switch:
-
Yes, I did try it but it is not a long term solution. I can’t add links or do anything in the reply.
-
Any updates on this issue? You mentioned that WP was looking into stripping out the header info automatically but there has been no update since the 14th. I feel as if I am the one who continues to look into this instead of support taking the lead. Please advise.
-
I’m sorry, I don’t have any updates about this. I reported the issue to our developers but I don’t have a timeline for when to expect a fix for it.
-
Hi there! Another option you might try as a temporary workaround is using the WordPress app:
You can install the Android app on your phone and reply directly to comments from your comment notifications there, rather than replying via email.
That might be an alternative to plain text emails as a temporary solution until I have an update from our team about the issue.
-
I do use the app in a pinch but I am not able to cc the person who left the comment so I don’t use it often. Thank you for continuing to look into the issue.

@tibookchatter — No, there aren’t any updates on this at this stage. I don’t have a timeline for when our team will be able to investigate this issue for you.
-
Originally you said they were looking into it. Now you are saying it’s not even on the timeline for investigation. Can you escalate? This has not been handled well at all. I can’t be the only one affected. AT&T mail is still much used. When I reply from Gmail, I get less header but still get header info in the reply.
If you are unable to find a solution, can someone else help? A supervisor?
-
Rachel asked me to step in here, since you asked to speak with a supervisor.
Originally you said they were looking into it. Now you are saying it’s not even on the timeline for investigation
I see how the phrasing used here could be confusing. With your help, Rachel investigated this issue extensively to identify exactly what was happening and why. She then submitted a bug report to our developers.
However, our developers prioritize which fixes they work on internally and do not publish timelines for that work. The issue is open for them, but I can not tell you when a fix will happen.
Rachel provided several options to lessen the impact of this issue, I recommend you rely on those for the time being.
-
I have relied on those options but my readers are starting to complain about the issue and I have been the one to reach out repeatedly to get updates. After the first reply, it took weeks for the next and “I” had to seek that out. I know sometimes things cannot be fixed quickly but it helps me understand that it is still being looked at, when the happiness engineer takes it upon his or herself to stay in touch with the end user. It should not be the end user constantly asking for an update, which I only do after weeks have passed.
I am also unable to comment by email so I had to actually download another client just to respond to comments because she pretty much gave up on that part of the ticket.
Follow-thru is what I am concerned with at the moment. I just want to know that someone is still on top of this.
