Why is my entire masthead and first page changed?

  I haven’t posted anything recently, and have made no changes, but suddenly my masthead photo is replaced. I can’t put it back. The layout of my first page is also completely different.

  Hi there,

  I’m sorry for the trouble! Our team launched a change earlier today that caused problems for customizations you made to your site’s appearance. We fixed that problem, and most sites are now back to normal.

  If any of your site’s customizations are still missing, you can open your site’s Customizer and re-save those customizations now.

  If you have any more trouble with that, please let me know!

  I spent hours on it last night. Now I see I can get my masthead changed, but not the way I had it before, and I have no idea how to present our book and chapters the way I had it. I’m guessing it was wiped and not saved anywhere? What is to stop this from happening again, even if I can fix it? I don’t have the time for this and I know it’s a problem for everyone on wordpress.

  Hi Bev,

  I checked your site and I see you used to have this custom header image:

  

  Would you like me to help re-save that as your site’s header image, or are you happy with the image you’re using now?

  I also checked your custom menu, and it’s back up with links to all of your chapters. Is that working ok now?

  The only other change I noticed is you used to have a custom background (black with your Gravatar image at the top of the page). I can re-save that on your site if you’d like to switch back to it, or you can go to the “Colors & Backgrounds” section of your site’s customizer to set that again.

  I’m very sorry for the trouble this caused you — our team is working to do everything we can to prevent this kind of issue from happening again.

  Thank you so much, Rachel. It really helps to see the masthead I used to have. I’ll keep the new one now though.

  But I can’t figure out what the colors and background I used to have. Is it possible to switch back to that so I can see it? And let me know how to change it if I need to?

  Hi Bev,

  I reset your site’s custom background so you can see what you had before. If you want to change that, you can go to the Colors & Background section in your site’s Customizer to set different background colors or images.

  Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
