Why is my 'featured image' not displaying in the header of my page?

I’ve successfully uploaded featured images onto each of my pages, but now cannot change the featured image in my header on my posts page. I’ve ‘set featured image’ and ‘updated page’ and the thumbnail is the photo I want to be featured, but on both the preview and the page itself, the header image from my front page displays instead. Over the last fortnight I have tried clearing my cache, accessing the posts page from different devices, and re-uploading the desired image numerous times. I know the desired image is compatible with my Hemingway theme, and of the right size, because it is the photo I first used on my posts page when my website was only a blog, just a few weeks ago. My posts page is not a copy or template of my front page, as it is the first page I created. I have changed the page order but don’t see how this would affect it. Nothing I do seems to result in displaying the correct image in the header. Can anyone resolve this? Many thanks!

    Hi,

One possible reason for the failure your assigned featured image to display on your static front page would be insufficient dimensions. From the Quick Specs section of the the Hemingway Rewritten theme guide:

Featured Images are 676 wide by unlimited height on Sticky posts, and 1280 by 416 as header images on single posts and pages.

If your assigned featured image for that page is less than 1280 pixels wide, the custom site header might display instead.

Hi Musicdoc1, thanks very much for replying, however, as I said, the desired image previously displayed fine on this page in this same header when my site was only a blog, and is 2560 × 1440, so I don’t think that is the problem unfortunately…

Sorry. I guess I hadn’t read the full original post carefully.

I always confuse people by putting in copious amounts of detail! I think I’ve found a way around it, by editing the page from a different way in (not through ‘pages’, but through ‘Appearance’ instead) and changing the featured image from there. Goodness knows why that page needed special treatment – I was all ready to delete it and start again – but I think it’s sorted finally! Cheers.

PS I’m leaving this post open in case anyone can add anything to this strange glitch, as I’ve gone around it rather than resolved it as such!

Glad you found a way to get it right.

Just to clarify, your posts page is https://weavingtheseisles.wordpress.com/tales-from-the-road/, correct? And the intended header image is now displaying as cropped-murph-and-bus-at-husinish? I’d completely misread the OP and wasn’t even looking at the correct page when I first responded.

Yes, that’s right, but every time I changed either the Posts page (that you’ve linked to) or the Shop page, the header photo changed on both (but not on any of the others), when I wanted two different header pictures. Grrrr! I guess the two were weirdly linked – maybe I set one page up based on the previous, by copying it or something, though I don’t recall doing that (and it was only a fortnight ago!).

It might be a glitch in the theme. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

Thank you – not done that before but hopefully just did…

  • Hi, I’ve clicked through several pages and posts on your site and the featured images are changing for me.

Can you link us to the posts that are not working?
