Why is my media library empty?

All images in my medial library seem to have vanished. Have not worked on this blog for quite awhile. Recently upgraded this computer to Windows 8.1. Please help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You’re correct that your blog’s Media Library is empty at this point, however in reviewing its history I am not seeing any files as having been present for the last several months either. If anything was deleted, it was quite a while ago.
Is it possible that you uploaded your content to a different blog by any chance?
-
Thank you for your e-mail. I don’t have another blog on this account, so I’m sure the files were never moved. About a year ago I opened a WP premium account and selected this template. Nothing was ever done with the template – absolutely nothing – no pages, widgets, or anything added or removed. The other day I decided I really wanted to build and edit that site. I thought I’d start with a Homepage but couldn’t find a homepage template in the Page Attributes box, then couldn’t find any images in the Media Library. Should I delete the template and start over again? Suggestions wanted and warmly accepted. Lee

I apologize, but I need to clarify briefly.
Are you looking for the template files for your theme or for media files of some kind which you had uploaded to your blog at some point?
If the former, at WordPress.com local copies of theme files do not get copied in to the media library. We do not allow the modification of themes on the file level for security and stability sake, so access is not necessary. Since you have purchased one of the requisite add-ons, you can edit the appearance of your theme via CSS by going to your Dashboard and then Appearance >> Customize >> Edit CSS.
In case you aren’t aware, there are a few important differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. We’ve created a help article explaining those differences right here:
-
The image files that come with the theme are not there. They weren’t removed. I’d like to have them because your site doesn’t work without them. I paid for premium service. I have nothing.

No images from themes are ever placed in the media library when you select any of our themes. When you first load the Academica theme, it is quite plain. It is only once you start publishing posts with images (specifically featured images) that you start seeing them appear on the theme itself.
If you check out the Academica demo theme: http://academicademo.wordpress.com , you will see that the images in the slider are attached to posts, and are not default parts of the theme.
The premium service which you paid for got these benefits:
- A custom domain
- Advanced customization (including CSS editing)
- Store and play back dozens of videos through VideoPress
- 13 GB of space
- No Ads

You’ve got me confused. How do I publish a post with images when there are no images in the library to add to the post? How do I get the images in the media library. Or, are you saying that no images are included with the theme? Please help me get started with this theme. Thank you.
-
I am saying that no images are included with the theme. You have to add them yourself. When you navigate to the Media Library, you will notice that there is a button which says “Add New.” You can click this button and select files from your own computer to upload.
Alternatively, you can also just add files as you are composing posts through the Add Media button in the compose window.
We have a series of help articles which explain pretty much everything you need to know about the image features of our blogs. You can find them right here:
