Why is my post disappearing into a picture caption?
-
This worked fine last night, I added pictures to several posts (http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/51311-7da-cloudy-had-1-of-7pr-plastiks-kits-put-it-in-with-silvies/, http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/52711-fr-lola-fc1-had-7-of-youngs-indiana-thorntons-kits/, http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/6711-ali-had-6-of-shams-kits/, & http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/62311-alj-had-6-of-rustys-kits/) with no problems. I shut down my computer for the night, & started it this morning.
I’m trying to add pictures to http://cafinny.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/7211-caramel-had-10-of-sherbets-kits-3-died/ There were 4 pictures on it when I started. I uploaded the recent pictures & took a line break out between the last picture & the words “These kits are 9 weeks old.” When I went from Visual to HTML, everything after the first picture was in the caption of the first picture, & the rest of the pictures were gone. Before publishing the updates, I left the page & went back to the previous page. Went back to the edit page, took the line break out that I mentioned before & published it. I’ve tried inserting the new pictures again, but everything keeps going into the first pic. :(
The edit page shows as https://cafinny.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1537&action=edit
I’m using Windows XP & Firefox 6.0.2
Mozilla Firefox Yahoo! Edition yahoo – 1.9
Firefox is up to date according to Help/About FirefoxThis seems to be an issue with going from Visual to HTML. When I first go to the edit page it’s on Visual, I go to HTML & it looks like this:
Need pics. Finally got them when the kits were 4 weeks old. I have to play around too much to get them all to line up. Hope you can see them all ok.

I insert the new picture using the HTML screen, & it looks like this:

I didn’t think there’d be a problem going between the 2 screens! HELP

There shouldn’t be a problem when toggling between HTML and Visual.
However, would you mind trying to insert the pictures that you want to add to this post and then letting us know when you’ve updated it? Then, we can take a look at the HTML to see what’s going on here.
Sometimes, the layout and alignment of photos with captions can become a bit challenging. The spacing needed for each photo combined with the available width of your blog layout can cause images to move around or have regular text become inserted into a caption.
As a troubleshooting step, be sure to add a full space (<p>) between each paragraph. This will help ensure that the captions and post content will not get mixed up.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there was already a </div> between the last text entry & the picture, so I didn’t think it would be a problem. However, I tried with 2 <p>’s & a </div> between, still ended up with

Can you confirm that you do not want “We moved the kits into a hutch in the barn. One of the kits was found under the nestbox a few weeks later.” included in the caption?
If so, in the HTML editor you will want to make sure that any text you want displayed regularly is outside the [/caption] end tag. For example, in the HTML you copied and pasted above, the correct display would look like this:
[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="100" caption="Kits in hutch with mom"]<img class=" " title="Caramel xSherbet 4 weeks old " src="http://thumb11.webshots.net/t/85/85/3/82/71/2045382710102355431iZTgTG_th.jpg" alt="These kits are 4 weeks old" width="100" height="56" />[/caption] <p> We moved the kits into a hutch in the barn. One of the kits was found under the nestbox a few weeks later. :( These kits are 9 weeks old. -
So for some reason there’s a problem with the HTML of the first picture:
Need pics. Finally got them when the kits were 4 weeks old. I have to play around too much to get them all to line up. Hope you can see them all ok.
<div class=”mceTemp”><dl class=”wp-caption alignleft”><dt class=”wp-caption-dt”><img class=” ” title=”Caramel xSherbet 4 weeks old ” src=”http://thumb11.webshots.net/t/85/85/3/82/71/2045382710102355431iZTgTG_th.jpg” alt=”These kits are 4 weeks old” width=”100″ height=”56″ /></dt><dd class=”wp-caption-dd”>Kits in hutch with mom</dd></dl><img class=”alignleft” title=”Caramel xSherbet 4 weeks old” src=”http://thumb11.webshots.net/t/83/183/8/30/12/2287830120102355431JfHcKp_th.jpg” alt=”” width=”100″ height=”56″ /><img class=”alignleft” title=”Caramel x Sherbet” src=”http://thumb11.webshots.net/t/82/482/5/28/19/2467528190102355431SuBeYl_th.jpg” alt=”” width=”100″ height=”56″ /></div>
<div style=”clear: both;”>We moved the kits into a hutch in the barn. One of the kits was found under the nestbox a few weeks later. :'(
IT doesn’t have the “[caption id...]” tag around it.
I found that if I don’t include a caption on the new pictures, they show properly, & this disappearing act doesn’t happen.
Maybe I should remove the first picture & put it back in?

That’s the next step that I would try. Do you have any better luck if you remove and re-add the photo?
