Why is my post only seen under a specific category?

I am trying to understand why my last post didn’t show up on the main page of my blog. Is there a setting I accidentally changed to make this happen? It is only showing up under a specific catergory.

You need to take a very close look at the category and tags you use. U can see some inventions there that will never appear in on the Top[ics (Categories and Tags) Pages. Consider this analogy: Would others find similar books (blogs) in a library catalog under them or not? If not, then get rid of them. Successful blogs draw between 30 – 60 % of their incoming targeted readers from search engine referrals and you will benefit from reducing the combined number of categories and tags, and assigning only appropriate and relevant categories and tags to your posts. Thank you for the additional information timethief. I’m still uncertian how all of my other posts show on the main page of my blog but this particular one doesn’t. I have checked and rechecked privacy settings.

That post has a whack of irrelevant Tags as well as an irrelevant Category.
1. You are using too many categories or tags. In most cases, there’s no need to assign more than a handful of tags per post. If you use more than 15 tags and categories (total), your posts will not appear on tag pages (because you don’t want to see irrelevant content showing up there, and neither do we). http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts

After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there. -

And your latest, “Just to Say Hello“, comes right after that — I see it. The “Breaking Even” one just shows up first on the home page because it’s pinned.

Timethief- thank you, but your guidance didn’t resolve the issue. I appreciate you sending all the information you have about using too many tags but as I mentioned before there are only 5 or 6 tags on this particular post. This is way fewer tags than I have used in any of my other posts and the other post are showing up perfectly.

The post should have shown up between July 15th, London – So Much London So Little Time and Just To Say Hello. It did not so I reposted it on September 2nd.

Reviewing this ticket, it sounds like you have deleted the post which you were having an issue with and now your post is working OK, is that the case?
If so, please let me know if it happens again! I’ll be happy to take a look at it. Unfortunately there isn’t much that I can tell once that post is gone, however.
