why is my site and admin panel not working?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been struggling to get my site up and running. I purchased my domain name from wordpress – in my wordpress.com dashboard under “store” it says “Domain Registered with WordPress.com.”
I also bought hosting from godaddy. I installed the wordpress app in my godaddy cpanel and uploaded the free wordpress.org “customizr” theme (extracted) in my file manager. I also changed my wordpress DNS to godaddy’s custom nameservers which they emailed to me… using the “make changes to dns” option in the dropdown list on my domains page where it says domain administration.
My url is http://www.eatthegood.com. When I go there, all I see is a page with ads that says “this page is parked free, courtesy of wordpress.”
When I try to login to my wordpress admin panel, http://www.eatthegood.com/wp-admin/, it struggles to load and then says “this webpage is not available.” can’t access anything.
I checked my whois and the name servers are correct.
I changed it yesterday. I have been trying to figure this out for a few months already. Always the same thing. I have played around with the nameservers since December. Can’t figure it out. What have I done wrong? Should I transfer my wordpress domain to godaddy?
I have seen other posts say to wait 2-48 hours, other say it should happen immediately.
also, I went to my godaddy DNS manager and next to my domain eatthegood.com it said pending transfer.. over a month ago i played with it and clicked “add off-site dns” in my dns manager and today i cancelled it to see if it would fix the problem.

i have NO idea what else to do at this point. again, should i just cancel EVERYTHING i bought from wordpress.com to have my own url and just transfer eatthegood.com to godaddy so everything is from one place?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I believe there is a mix up between WordPress.com and WordPress.org at the moment. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you want to continue using WordPress.com please change your nameservers back to ours:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you want to use the self-hosted, WordPress.org, please find support here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

    http://codex.wordpress.org/

Because your site is self-hosted with a different provider, support staff at WordPress.com do not have access to your site’s files or the ability to provide support for your current issue.

If you need professional help for your self-hosted WordPress site, please check out:

You may also wish to contact your host’s support team for more assistance.

Let me know how you would like to proceed, and I can give you more guidance!

hi! thank you for your response. i know there is a difference between wordpress.com and .org, i just came here for help because i already contacted godaddy AND posted on wordpress.org forums and did not receive much help. i only included my information about first setting up a free wordpress.com blog and then switching to purchasing my paid domain from wordpress.com because i thought any additional info might help resolve the problem.
basically, i want to self host. i want to be able to use the wordpress app/software so that i can make a totally customized blog using free or premium themes that i upload and install myself on my godaddy hosting. that is why i decided to not use the free wordpress.com anymore. i just hoped someone here would be able to help figure it out. but my domain and my hosting are not purchased from the same place, my domain is from wordpress (i actually BOUGHT eatthegood.com from wordpress, i am not using eatthegood.wordpress.com for free) and my hosting is godaddy. i assumed it would be okay to have domain and hosting not from the same company as long as i changed the nameservers. i followed instructions for this on wordpress.org. i still cannot access my admin panel…

    Hi there,

I see. I’d like to help, but unfortunately because your site is self-hosted with a different provider, support staff like myself at WordPress.com do not have access to your site’s files or the ability to provide support for your current issue.

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with your self-hosted site – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

    http://wordpress.org

I’m so sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

BUT I purchased the domain from wordpress.com… So if wordpress.com or .org or godaddy cannot help me, what am I supposed to do? I am wanting to self host, but my actual domain was purchased from WordPress.COM.

Please note that domain registration and hosting are separate. You can register your domain with one company and host with any entirely different company – which is what you are doing. If you were to host your site with us at WordPress.com, I can definitely help you with that. But, since your choosing to self-host elsewhere I cannot do anything when it comes to the content of your site. I can only manage the domain name itself (which is more like a mailing address). We are just your registrar (so things like renewing the domain, changing nameservers, etc) would go through us. But, the content of your site would not be something we can do anything about.

You can find more information about the difference between registering and hosting here:
