Why is my site URL ‘example.home.blog’?

    I had a WordPress a while back and the URL was ‘example.wordpress.com.’ However, for this current WordPress, I was unable to create ‘newexample.wordpress.com,’ and instead, I was given ‘newexample.home.blog’ and told ‘You cannot map another WordPress.com subdomain.’ What happened to the wordpress.com domain?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    See the forum topic Try wordpress.com before signing up?, especially the posts by @themagic robot, who says:

    What seems to work best to get a free site ending in wordpress.com is to skip step one entirely…

    @kokkieh, who says:

    …to guarantee you get a WordPress.com address rather than a .blog it’s simpler to just skip the first step.

    This is still under testing. Once it’s officially launched we’ll likely provide public documentation about this so people will know how it works.

    and @superhovia, who explains:

    Got it. I just wanted to point out, even if you get a something.home.blog (or something.travel.blog, etc.) address, it’ll still be a free site.

    You can treat it like you would a site ending in .wordpress.com, and still use a free plan.
