Why is my stats so low?
-
I would say that the problem is with UK page views not updating the stats, it is nothing to do with clearing the cache, I have tried it in a variety of different browsers and alternative devices.
apetcher, I think people are reporting different issues in one place, so I’m trying to sort them out!
It always helps to know if a cache clearing step has been done, even if you think it’s unlikely to help. :) Also, if an update or fix goes in after you checked different browsers and devices in the past, then clearing cache can sometimes be a good troubleshooting step even if you’ve already done it in the past and especially if you’ve already checked multiple devices and browsers because the problematic view could have been cached again.
Anyway, it’s a good troubleshooting step!, and it’s often something I ask if I can see something working when I test myself and it’s also something I will suggest if I know a recent update has happened on the server, which is true in this case.

designsimply,
The majority of complaints that I’ve read here and in other threads on the issue have referred to hourly stats. Many in this thread have specifically mentioned that the hourly rates of their stats have declined significantly, though when the fall began has varied quite a bit in reports. There are no hourly statistics on either the My Stats page (https://wordpress.com/my-stats/), nor the other Site Stats page, https://SiteName.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats.
-
I deleted by cache, this time the stats page did load up slowly. The figures aren’t updating though. I had a comment left on my new post 20 minutes ago and that particular visit isn’t showing up.
Thanks stephenliddell. 20 minutes probably isn’t long enough to wait. I’m not sure how often the stats get updated, but I’m pretty sure that it’s not real time, so waiting longer would be good—especially right now since it seems some updates are going on in the background.

https://wordpress.com/#/my-stats/
is where my stats page is but I’m also looking at:
https://wordpress.com/#/my-stats/?view=table
My stats are just low – I’m not seeing a blank page…
for the summaries.

musicdoc1, as I mentioned before, I was looking at the blank stats page issue when I asked for a URL. It seems there are multiple issues in this thread. Either way though, it helps me to know the URL as a starting point so thanks for posting yours even though your stats pages are not blank.

@musicdoc1
Yeah, exactly what’s the matter on my blogs.
However, some of the stats misteriously reappear after 48 hours. Check your old ones, bet they did increase. Nevertheless, stats simply dont count. I’ve got statcounter installed and it shows a ratio from 70 hits countes by staatcounter to 1 by wordpress. So I guess there really is something wrong. -

Quite simply, stats are broken again. I have a check counter that only counts desktop browser access. It’s logged 161 hits today, whereas WP stats have logged 79.
The stats lost were corrected in the period between the ‘fix’ yesterday afternoon and 12:00am UK time, when they failed again.
Has this been raised as a ticket yet? Why is it so difficult to convey this issue?
Cheers

Okay, I looked at https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?view=table for http://mountaincowardadventures.wordpress.com/ and I see the number for Dec 5 is 68, which looks a little higher than average compared to the last three weeks for averages listed in the table. There are other days with numbers in the 30s, but that looks reasonable compared to other dates in the table like Nov 22 and Nov 23. I cannot predict why there are fewer views on some days. I do know that sometimes things slow down in December in general for our overall WordPress.com stats and I think it’s because of the holidays and that lots of people take extra time away from the computer around this time of year. For Dec 6 in your stats table, I see a really small number, but that’s because Dec 6 isn’t over yet and the stats aren’t updated in perfect real time, so if you want to look at the Dec 6 number, we should check back on that tomorrow.

Good eye! There was indeed a problem for a short time which caused some stats not to get recorded. We think that problem was fixed and also the systems team worked to restore the missing stats from before (which is no small task, they are amazing). That data restore finished only a few hours ago, so we should let the dust settle on that front.

hi designsimply.. my stats are back to normal. thx
buahdadaplus, yay! Thanks so much for the note!

brownhillsbob, outside stats counters not matching up with WP stats might have always been the case. Different counters take different exceptions and rules into account in different algorithms, so they will never match up exactly between different services. Sorry about that!
-
Please don’t patronise me. Your stats are still very clearly broken. I recorded nothing between 12am and 5am whatsoever, and are still recording more hits from the US than UK, which for a hyperlocal UK blog is odd.
I’d really appreciate if you would raise an issue for this and try and get a working fix. The evidence is all around you.

Though there is a different approach to count hits and different counters may report different counts, it is far from normal to have a deviation as big as the one reported. Or look at the WP-Stat-Gadget, the one for the browser bar, in my case it counts 948 while the WP-Stats page either the old or the new stats page count 231 and 224 respectively. So what about that problem, you talked about. Seems it re-appeared…

We have been also experiencing the same problem during the last three days.
The url is http://antikleidi.com
Stats are about 40% lower, compared to google analytics and previous normal days.

brownhillsbob, I am absolutely not trying to patronise you and am genuinely trying to help.

The more I look into this, the more I’m thinking the sparkline graph in the gray toolbar is just behind sometimes, which is why my first thought was to suggest clearing cache. Just to make sure, have you tried that troubleshooting step recently?
Also, can you look at the sparkline when you are on your blog home page and then again when you are in your classic dashboard and tell me if the graphs show different numbers for you during the same browser session after you have cleared cache? Knowing specifics like this will help me troubleshoot with you.
-
michaelk65, thanks for the notes, I really cannot comment about how other stats counters work. The best I can do to help is try to get specifics from everyone about what is happening on the dashboards here on WordPress.com and try to sort it out that way.
-
Yes, it’s nothing to do with the toolbar graph being behind. It’s the same problem as yesterday that clearly has relapsed.
This is the number of views on the classic stats page. I’m not talking about the sparkline.
According to the classic stats page I’ve had 89 hits today. In total. By an external counter installed in the sidebar that’s so poor it can’t count mobile visits, I have 201 compared 82. As a rule, the plugin counter general logs *half* of the WP classic stats page.
The WP stats are showing exactly the same problem they were yesterday. There was a fix, with broke again at 12am GMT
Clearing caches, clicking the sparkling or anything else don’t make any difference
Cheers
