why is my website no longer showing up on google searches for my type of service

    Hi,

I’m concerned that my website for Rebuilding/Loving Choices seminars is all of a sudden not showing up on searches for ‘divorce support’. For a long time, my website came up as one of the top hits for ‘separation/divorce support Raleigh’. What can I do to change this? People are no longer finding me through their web searches for counseling and/or groups for separation/divorce support and my business is getting a lot less referrals. Please offer me some help/advice – I am not very knowledgeable about any of this tech stuff.

  • Hi there.

Looking at your site, I see you only have six posts published in total, and only two since 1 January. That might very well be part of the problem. Search engines favour dynamic content (i.e. posts) over static content (i.e. pages). Additionally, every time you publish a post WordPress.com pings search engines to index your site. If you’re not publishing new posts, search engines never visit your site, so the site gradually drops from search results as search engines no longer think your site contains relevant content.

Another big factor is backlinks, i.e. links from other sites to your site. The more people are linking to you, the higher you will rank in search results. The best way to get backlinks is to engage with others online and write good enough content that they will link back to your site when they write their content. But if you don’t have any content on your site, there’s nothing for them to link back to, so I’d start there.

There are other stuff like keywords, etc, that I don’t really understand in any great detail myself, but regular posts so search engines regularly index your site and quality backlinks to improve your site’s ranking are the two most effective things you can work on to try and improve this. Another blogger, @timethief, has written several posts on this topic. You can see her posts here: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/category/search-engine-optimization/

Apart from that, the simple fact is, search engine results fluctuate. Just because one of your posts appeared on the first page of results yesterday, doesn’t mean it will still appear there today.
