Why is my wordpress import taking so long
-
I exported my posts from my previous wordpress (self hosting) and had imported it using your tools. I believe that I started the process on Saturday and it’s still not ready yet. There was quite a few posts in the old blog, so I’m not sure how long it should take.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Sometimes the importer gets hung-up. It sounds like that might be the case here. I’ll tag this thread for staff assistance. They can “un-stick” it.

Staff has to do it, and the “modlook” line happens to be really long right now. Ff you click on the “modlook” tag in the right column you can check on their progress. Note: they work from the back of the line to the front of the line, and commenting on threads moves them back up to the top. So, I know it’s hard to wait especially when it’s taking longer than usual, but patience really is the fastest way to get help.

I have reset your importer again.
Would you please let us know how many posts, comments, and pages you’re trying to import?
-
I think it was over 1000, if not more like 2000. It’s my parents recipe site that I’m migrating over from a godaddy hosted wordpress install.
-
Oh, ok, that might be a bit big. :)
Could you please try splitting it up a bit by only selecting specific date ranges with the export?
-
I can’t because the original import to wordpress was over 1600 entries on the same day, so the exprt is going to be large even if i choose the first month.
-
Ok, try splitting the export file following this guide: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-split-large-xml-files-in-wordpress/
Shoot for a max file size of 4 MB, just to be on the safe side.
-
Okay, so I’ve downloaded WXR Splitter for mac and successfully split the 5ish MB file into 3 2mb files. I’m in the process of importing the first file. Will post if something happens, or if it fails again.
Thanks for the support :)

24hours and still no luck :(
Last time I did this it was smooth and painless. Not sure what’s going on on this one, and it was the exact same scenario, albeit less posts than this migration.

I asked our developers to take a look over the import system and your blog specifically, and they couldn’t find any problems.
There were a few other import problems reported yesterday, so I’m hoping that it was maybe just a transient thing in the system.
Would you please try one last time, but use the original not-split export file?
If that doesn’t work, I can put through the import myself (I tried it on a text blog of mine and it worked perfectly), but that can cause some content attribution issues down the road for you, so I’d rather avoid it if at all possible (hence the trying it just one more time).
Sorry for the trouble!
