why is norton blocking wordpress dashboards
-
I participate in two wordpress blogs. one is a group and one is my own. I’m using a hotel wi-fi and I can’t get into the dashboard of either one. I get a norton message that it is malicious. I don’t have norton on my computer so i contacted the hotel IT dept.. They insist it isn’t them. norton says it isn’t their doing. I get the same result on chrome, explorer and firefox. I don’t believe both blogs have been hacked simultaneously with my arriving at this hotel. What is going on?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I can assure you that the blogs aren’t hacked or disabled — your sites and their dashboards are working just fine from this end.
Since you’re getting a Norton message, there must be some kind of Norton security that’s blocking the dashboard for you. If it definitely isn’t something that the hotel’s IT department set up, it could be something related to the hotel’s internet service provider. You’ll need to work with the hotel to find the source of that Norton blocking, as it’s not coming from WordPress.com itself.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Thank you. I spent several days with Norton telling me it’s my browser, and the hotel telling me my wordpress site was hacked. The forums all said to do these incredibly obtuse procedures that didn’t “feel” right. When I got home to my own wi-fi, wordpress worked just fine.

If this happens again and the message mentions Norton ConnectSafe, try manually changing your DNS server then flush your DNS cache. I use Google’s 8.8.8.8 when this happens.
The hotel’s internet is probably using the Norton ConnectSafe DNS servers.

This is Norton trying to sell you something. As long as WP.com won’t give you a way to verify site ownership, Norton will hold you hostage.

I am getting this message. The solution set out in the above posts is complete gobbledygoop to me. What the heck is “changing your DNS server then Fluch your DNS cashe and Google 8.8.8.8”? The point of wordpress is it is easy but this answer is completely opaque and incomrehensible to most human beings. Is there an answer to this problem? What is it caused by? What do I do, in simple English?
