why is .nz (new zealand) not an accepted domain for domain mapping?

  New Zealand has just launched .nz domain extentions
  up to this point the default was the longer .co.nz

  Is WordPress not accepting .nz for domain mapping as it is too new?
  or because it is something to do with types of domain extensions?
  so basically should i just wait a while and use .nz
  or do i have to buy something else like .co ?

  .nz should work for domain mapping. Give it another try and let me know what happens.
