Why is publicize included in my follower count?
-
I enabled publicize pretty much right away, when I started my blog, and it did drive a few of my facebook friends to my blog, which I found pretty useful :)
Then today on my follow widget, where the follower count is displayed, it went from 9 followers to 408?! I checked my follower count, and realized it was counting my 399 facebook friends as well.. now I’m pretty convinced, that these 399 people are NOT all actively following my blog, so 408 followers is a great, big lie.. how can I get the follower count to only include wordpress and email followers without deactivating publicize?
Thanks for any help in advance :)

“Because TPTB chose to include the”, sounds lame but that’s all I know. I’ll flag this thread for Staff and they will provide their rationale for the decision to include them.

We consider them followers because they follow your Facebook feed, and you are Publicizing to Facebook, so by proxy, your blog has 399 new followers.

Hmm.. okay, thanks for the explanation :)
But as I said, in some cases that’s kind of silly, because it will show up on their front page on facebook and they’ll just scroll past it.. many people don’t know, that they can choose not to follow someone’s feed without “unfriending” them. Also they might be interested in whatever else I post on my facebook wall without necessarily feeling the need to go check out my blog :)
But I see the reasoning behind it all, so it’s all good, thanks again :)
