why is the domain renewal fee $26?

Why will my automatic yearly domain renewal cost $26? I just noticed this when looking into purchasing the no-ad update, saw this info (pasted below my question). The previous page I had just been on stated it was lower – I think $18?

Hi there, your domain is a private registration, so the cost is $26 per year. A private registration hides your contact details from the public domain database. You can read more about public vs. private domains here:

If you want to remove the privacy option so that your contact details are visible in the public domain database, the price will then be $18.
You can do that under Store > My Upgrades, by clicking “Cancel Private Registration”:
