Why is the editor trashing my previews and publishes?

What gives? I click on “Preview” and it asks me if I’m sure I want to do this, then reverts my post-in-progress to the last saved version. Same thing when I try to publish. Why is it interpreting “preview” and “post” as “trash my changes”?

I can’t say for sure if this is the case for you, but… when I was first using WordPress, I would hit preview (which opens a new window) and forget to go back and save draft, or update. And then I’d navigate away from the page that I edited and lose my edits. Now, I make sure I hit Update or Save Draft (if unpublished) before I hit preview.

Not my situation. Like I said, when I click on “preview,” instead of opening a tab with the preview in it, it asks if I “really want to do this,” like I’ve just told it to dump my changes and revert to the last-saved version. I haven’t navigated away from the page, either.

I think I just experienced what you’re talking about. My screen has been freezing when I’m in edit mode. When this happens, I still have the top black bar and the left black side bar, but everything else is black. This has been happening recently. When I hit refresh, I get the pop up that asks, Are you sure you want to leave this page?
If you get that, don’t do it.
I select Stay on this Page and what happens for me then, is the page refreshes, and it’s complete with the edits I’ve made up until the screen freezes. I then hit save right away. This sounds like a bug.

Actually, asking if you’re sure you want to leave the page is a common response to refreshing a page with data entered on it, because that data is likely to be lost. (It’s your cue to copy the biggest block or text you want to save to the clipboard so you can paste it back in as soon as it refreshes.) I get that all the time when the Publisher’s Clearing House pages don’t move on to the next game and I have to refresh them.
But I’m not “refreshing” a page. the page is behaving perfectly normal, except clicking “publish” doesn’t lead to publishing it.
