Why is the Pin It button not showing number of pins?

  • Unknown's avatar

For some reason the “Pin it” button in my “Share this” section has stopped showing me how many times each article has been pinned. Any idea what’s going on? Thanks.

OK. I tried it, but it didn’t help. When you look at my blog and scroll to the bottom of an article, does the “pin it” button show the number of times the article has been pinned?

What post are you looking at? Make sure you check a post that has already been shared on pinterest.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Yes, I am. Previously all my posts had been shared on Pinterest, and some had been shared 10s of 1000s of times. Now, none of the posts show the amount of shares. And here’s another problem: I thought I would try removing some of the enabled services in the sharing section to see if that helped. (I thought maybe there just wasn’t enough room for everything). But for some reason I can’t remove any of the services. When I’m looking at the sharing settings in my dashboard, if I try to drag an enabled service out of the enabled area, it just pops back up once I try to drop it somewhere else.

The problem of not being able to remove enabled sharing services is fixed now. However, removing some doesn’t fix the original problem. Still doesn’t show the number of times the article has been pinned.

I’ve just reported this issue to our developers to fix. I’ll contact you once I know more.

    Thank you for your patience.

I’ve also noticed another change with the PIn It button. Previously when I clicked on it, it would automatically pin my featured image. Now when I click on it, all the images in my post come up so that I can choose which image to pin. Being able to choose which image to pin is preferable, but I wonder if the problem with the button not showing the number of pins occurred at the same time that the functionality changed. Just thought I’d mention it in case it helps someone figure out the solution to the problem. Thanks!

I’m sorry to tell you that our developers had updated the button to match our newly styled icons and losing the counter is a result of this.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Oh, no! That makes me sad! Will we ever get the counter back? It was a great indicator of which posts were the most popular, and I enjoyed seeing how many times each article had been pinned.

They might come back to the button in the future. For now you can see your Pinterest shares in your Site Stats at http://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=38687088&unit=1&blog_shares&service=pinterest

    OK. Thank you.
Just tried that link, and this is what it says: “Just a note: we don’t count shares from ‘official’ buttons, just the standard share links. These numbers may not match the Sharing buttons or stats provided by the Sharing Services themselves, because we can only count shares that happen on WordPress.com”

What was so great about the counter on the official button was that it showed the total number of pins, even when someone repined the article from someone else’s pin. So, for example, the stats in the link you gave me show a certain article being shared 20 times. However, I remember that that article showed having been pinned about 40,000 times when we had the counter on the button. Just wanted to pass along why I would love to have the counter restored.
    Thanks for your help!

Sorry about that! I’ve just checked with the developer and the content of the message is correct. Our developing is aware of the situation and will try to get it back in the future.

    Thank you!
