“post comment’ button missing. See this post on your forum for a possible malicious tampering from someone with a grudge. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-this-jeopardy-i-cannot-compose-a-blog-why?replies=1

If this is truly malicious code or CSS action by this person it will be reported to the FCC for further action.

    @denmick
Your issues aren’t malicious code issues. What you describe in the other thread is evidenced in many threads on this forum.

Missing bar containing BOLD button, underline etc is gone and I lost functionality of the ‘edit’ features in the Publish area I use to schedule post also cannot upload pictures using icon above the aforementioned missing bar (above the compose box.) I use firefox and Windows-7 OS

Are you using AdBlock? If so disable it.
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpress-malfunctioning-need-help/page/2?replies=60#post-910550

Are you using the https:// secure log-in? if not then enable it.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

If you are creating a post or page type in a title and then make the post or page “private” and save the draft. Edit the private draft and once you are done with your writing you can change it to “public” and publish the post or page.

    Thanks for the rapid reply.

I actually uninstalled Adblock and set the https, logged out and back in but I still have no “Post Comment” box, although the comment box is there.

Aha! Now I know what your issue is. Comment boxes only appear when posts are viewed on their own pages, unless you use the P2 theme which is a Twitter-like theme.

The front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page and you cannot change this. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

Apparently the “Post Comment ” works for everyone except me because there are already comments being posted although I am unable to do so, hence my thoughts of malicious manipulation.

I can view comments just fine been doing so for over 2000 posts.

I have had no problems up until the last couple of days with this issue.

The previous Adblock issue involving post creation page items missing has been resolved.

I will do a computer restart for giggles just to see if it helps.

Understood. Have you tried disabling all browser add-ons and extensions then enabling them one at a time? If there is one that’s a culprit that’s the way to find it.

OK restart had no effect however I did find numerous ‘warning’ in the Firefox Error Console most have this link: Timestamp: 6/14/2012 10:28:28 AM
Warning: Error in parsing value for ‘background’. Declaration dropped.

Well isn’t that interesting. When I click inside the comment box it EXPANDS and my name and, get this, a ‘Post Comment’ button appears like magic.

So apparently someone in your organization has made an ‘improvement’ without notification again.

This has happened before with someone on your staff changing my blog layout and features, this time it caused much in the way of confusion and necessitating this Support Action be created.

I asked that you guys not “Improve” my blog without notification before to avoid confusion such as this. In the past the comment box was there with my name below and the Post Comment button in place, not hidden as it is now.

Could you please generate an e-mail for the blog owner stating the changes (improvements) made to avoid this in the future?

I just wasted a bunch of time with you trying to figure this ‘improvement’ out and like I said, this is not the first time one of your ‘improvements’ has caused me issues.

I realize this is a free blog but I did not think it would be driving me nutz.

Thanks for your help timethief, at least you tried to help unlike the other doofus who’s sarcastic sniveling set me off.

@richensa, If you click inside of the comment box, does the post comment button appear? It does on your site for me in Safari and in Firefox. The comment box behavior has changed and they are now using what is called “ajax” for the comment function which includes the button and the fields sliding out from the bottom once you click inside of the comment box to leave a comment.

In your browser preferences, make sure that javascript is enabled.

Past that, disable all browser add-ons you may have installed, restart your browser and the try again.

Other than that, I am out of suggestions.

I’ll tag this for staff attention and hopefully one of them will have a suggestion and/or will look into it.

    Thanks a lot!

    Me again:
    actual status report:

if I disable javascript, I am able to submit comments, BUT I cannot write posts properly in my own blog because the menus above the post-box have diseappered. So if I enable javascript, I can do the posting, but no comments.

Please, wordpress-staff, do you have any suggestions?

I’m having the same problem… for the past few hours my post comments box on my site and on some other wordpress blogs is no longer visible and the leave a comment box is smaller, but can be expanded in one corner. I’ve tried other browsers… all the same.

    Next question:

does this problem occure due to the Theme? I could submit my comment without any problem to a blog using the “Bouquet” theme…

Some users the German forums ran into this exact issue, and the solution was to disable an anti-virus program called Avira.

Are you running this or a similar anti-virus program? If so, would you please try with it disabled?
