Why is the username I want unavailable?

I know this might seem silly, but I’ve been trying to set my username to “firstscript” instead of “firstscript2” as it is right now. However, the username I want isn’t available even though there is no user with that username (I checked).

Is there anyway to get around this and set my username (not my display name) to “firstscript”? That is my username almost everywhere else, and I’d really like to have it here.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there.

    firstscript.wordpress.com is no longer available.

The authors have deleted this site.

When someone registers a blog URL, the matching username is automatically reserved for them. As you can see, someone had in the past registered the address matching the username you want, in the process reserving that username. It doesn’t matter that they never registered it, and it doesn’t matter that the blog has since been deleted. That username was reserved for them and they’re the only person who will ever be able to register it. I’m afraid that’s just how the system works.

And to answer the next question, there’s no way to find out who the person is who had registered that blog, and there’s no way in any case that would help you gain that username as they can’t transfer it to you.

Sorry it can’t be better news.

    Such a pity. :-(

Thanks for clearing that up for me though! Much appreciated.
