Why is the white frame not round properly and wording.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hiya, I have tried this post several times, to try and get it right, and I get one thing right and then not the writing in the right place, ie under the photos., so now on this posting, I have managed to get the writing underneath the photos (And also the photo right at the bottom, but the writing underneath the photos, are 1. not centre underneath the photos and also the right hand one, is a different font completely. Why is all this please? Also I notice the white frame around the right hand photo is not visible at all round its side – why? The peice is ok apart from these points, and not sure its ok with all the problems it is posing?

I dont know what you have done Hanni, but on the main veiwing page it looks awful :( there is white bits all over…? What did you do?

  • Unknown's avatar

ok fixed that, but why is my writing ‘disfigured’ on the main page? ie :

When I was around 14 years old,
and at High School, a TV Programme called The A Team began on

Ther is plenty of room for the ‘at high school’ to be continued after 14 years old? And if i alter this post much more, ….hahahaha! I seem to get it right, try and perfect it and then lose it all :(

I know the right hand photo is a big big, but cant alter it without the damn writing moving on the main screen which I cant understand why it happens when it looks normal on the main draft.?

Can anyone help me understand why the paragraphs looks the way it does? I need it fixing as soon as :)

    a) Go here:
    http://www.picnik.com/app#/in/upload
Upload first photo, click Edit, click Resize, change height to 250, click OK, click Save&Share, rename, click Save (to your computer).
    Repeat for second photo.

    b) Go to the post editor, delete the distorted versions you’ve got now.
Upload the first resized image, write caption, select alignment Left and size Full, click Insert into Post.
Repeat for second resized image, setting alignment to Right.
    Click Update Post.

PS As for helping you understand, I tried to do that in another thread: told you both about alignment/text-wrapping and about the difference between post editor and actual post.

Thanks for all that Panaghiostisadam, and I understand what you said about telling me in another thread, but sometimes, it does get all too technical for me, so it takes a while to understand /grasp things. So I apologise if things get slightly repetitive from me :( I am learning, or trying to learn, and when there are things that I think I need to write down to help me for future reference, I try to so it helps…..

As with this posting, I shall therefore try and write it all down, so I know what its all for ok? Sometimes I think about printing it all out, but that could take for ages, so I have to write it all down :)

Again once again, if I have been repetitive :( :)

PS your picnik upload thing…..I have gone to it…..isnt that what we use here…..? Or is it another thing like Photobucket please?

The Picnik section I suggested is an online image editing tool. If you have an image editing application (such as Photoshop), you can use that instead. The point is that you need to resize the images so that they are of equal height, and so that they’ll leave no room for text between them. For those two images, resizing to 250px high or slightly more than that is a good size.

No, I am not lucky enough to have photoshop unfortunately :( The most I have is Paint.Net.

Ah right, sorry I thought thats what the editing too was for on Word Press, where you can reshape it?

(PS As for helping you understand, I tried to do that in another thread: told you both about alignment/text-wrapping and about the difference between post editor and actual post.)

I usually also keep a record (in my favs) of everything I have asked problem wise, so I can go back to it….but I am still having trouble with this text alignment and I do know you mentioned this above, about telling me once. I am unsure of where that is now, so could I please trouble you to tell me once again, so then I have it and can write it down or add it to my favs.

For some reason I am having a lot of trouble all of a sudden with this text aligning stuff :(

    Thankyou :D

    • Yes, it’s too technical, and it’s difficult for beginners when it comes to multiple images (took me quite long before I figured out how to deal with images effectively).

    • Since you wrote that you needed to fix the problem asap, I suggested a solution in my first post above; I don’t see why you are reluctant to follow that suggestion and be done with this thing.

    • Part of your problem is that the two images are of different size and different width to height ratio. Since you wanted them side by side, they will only look neat if the versions inserted into the post have the same height.

    • Of course my original suggestion was just one out of several possibilities. Yes, you can do it in the post editor too. One way to resize them is to click on them, click the mountain icon that shows up, click Advanced Settings, and change the width and height numbers. But if you change the height to 250, you’ll have to calculate what the proper width must be, to retain the original width/height ratio (so that the images won’t be distorted like they are now); in Picnik, or Photoshop, this is taken care of automatically. Another way to resize them is switch the editor to html and modify the image code (probably what I would have done). But it’s more difficult for me to tell you what to change and what to delete, and it’s very easy to mess things up completely (especially since the images are captioned) – definitely not recommended for beginners!

    • The other reason why it’s generally better to resize images before uploading them, then insert them in real size, is that images resized by WP lose in quality. See here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/image-quality/

    • Re alignment once more: If you set the alignment of an image to None or Center, the text that follows will start below the image; if you set it to Left or Right, the text that follows will wrap around, i.e. fill in the space to the right or the left of the image (if there’s room enough).

    • Re post editor vs actual post: The visual editor is the same no matter what theme you’re using while themes vary greatly in width; so the editor is not a what-you-see-is-what-you-get tool as far as image placement and image-to-text relation are concerned. To see what the actual post will look like, you need to click Preview Changes when editing.
