Why is there no “Are you sure you want to publish this” window?

    Okay so this is more of a request than a question.

    I accidently published a post that was only a draft, and it was automatically sent to my subscribers through e-mail and then sent through twitter and facebook via the sharing tools.

    I have since disable the sharing tools, but the problem is, how can I prevent this from happening again when it comes to my subscribers? If I press publish they automatically get that e-mail. So If I press it accidently, they read it when they are not supposed to.

    Why isn’t there a window that pops up and asks you: “Are you sure you want to publish this?” So I don’t push the button accidentally and get subscribers getting drafts in their e-mail? Is there already one window that does this that I am not seeing?

    Is there way to fix it in my settings at least, so it doesn’t send my post right away to my subscribers?

    Something should be done, because seriously, it is not a cool feeling.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I’m sorry but … We have a draft mode. We have a preview function. We cannot set our RSS feeds to less than one (1) post. The bottom line is that there is no setting you can use — that’s what the preview function is for. You publish at your peril.

    The publish button in big and blue and at lower right of the publish module. The save draft button is grayish and at the upper left.

    I’m not being flippant here, but seriously, Don’t run on auto pilot. Look and read before you click?

    I was not “running on auto pilot” and I was just putting out a suggestion that many readers and me deal with.

    What happened was this: I was submitting a guest post on another site, and both of our blogs looked similar. {Both use wordpress.} I was typing up the html on my blog so I could copy and paste on the other blog and submit it for review. I had a moment where I mistook my blog for the other blog, and pressed the publish button thinking it was the “submit for review button.” It was a split second mistake that any human could make. I poured HOURS and HOURS over this post, and I was not in a rush at all.

    It was an HONEST MISTAKE and it can happen to anyone.

    It doesn’t happen often, in fact it only happened once in the whole year I’ve been using it. But I was given an honest concern here.

    “No” is a dead end word. There is always a solution if we are open to look for it.

    Here it is:

    Write your posts on the “page” editor. Put it under a “private” page.

    In this way you can write without anxiety or fear you might accidentally push the “blue button” and send you unfinished post to subscribers.

    Once you have finished your html in the “private” page, copy and paste your html on your post and then press submit.

    Hope this helps people who have a lot of subscribers and are afraid they might make that split second mistake that could cost them.

    The simpler solution, of course, is to use an offline blog editor, offline. Then copy/paste.

    Everyone makes mistakes. You can twist yourself into a pretzel in the attempt NEVER to make a single mistake, or you can just say “oh well, these things happen” and move on. Putting an intermediary “ARE YOU REALLY REALLY SURE YOU WANT TO PUBLISH THIS” button between hitting Publish and the post going live would be unspeakably irritating to many if not most bloggers (who will never need it) and would, over the 30 million or so blogs here, cost hours of wasted time per day.

    LOL, I guess I’m the only other one who kind of likes the idea ;)

    @ollinmorales
    If you are interested in trying an offline blog editor I have reviewed some here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/10/26/offline-blog-editors-reviews/

    @raincoaster I didn’t know there are “offline editors.” That is why I come to community forums, so that the “community” could teach me these things, and help find a solution to my issue. Thanks!

    @stephaniepost Thank you! I still think wordpress should consider making that window happen. But the truth is, using an offline editor does solve the problem. The thing that I worry is that there are many people who are not as tech-knowledgeable and are not aware of “offline editors.” I am hoping this thread helps them become aware of the solution

    @timethief Thank you!
