Why is this happening

  • Unknown's avatar

I had this problem when i was learning.. and it seems to be a problem when I’d change font size, type and color multiple times in a post.

What i do now, when not using the HTML is
type the post text completely plain text.
hold the Shift button in when I need to hit Enter

    THEN
go back over the text I wish to change colors, font styles, and alignments.

You might try here to start over.
Copy all your post to a plain notepad (this should take all the code out)
delete every thing in the post.

re copy the plain text from your notepad into the post.
    then add the pictures back
then carefully mouseover your text, and jazz your text back up.

    thats what i do
    good luck

I appreciate the tip. In the log run it will save time. Only issue is, finding the time to do the first copy and paste. As I mentioned earlier, I now spend 90% of my blogging time messing around with stuff like this. It is so not fun.

Maybe someday there will be a concensus this new system just doesn’t work as hoped / planned. All this nonsense shoulf have been addressed in before the loyal customers were sent into a tailspin.

This for example. To date I still cannot get phots where I want them. I have to post and view and post and view over and over and over until it’s sorta kinda where I want it UNLESS I am copy and pasting a photo next to a photo that was added BRFORE the change. I click next to the photo, tab three spaces, and the photo goes exactly where I wanted. If I add new ones, the cursur is on the bottom left of the photo, and when I click, the photo above move up, but when I hit view, it actually moved a space left if there is room.

In addition, two photos that should fit side by side, or at least used to, now will stack, but I never know whick one will be on top and which on the bottom, so once again post and view and post and view and post and view.

Oner blogging session. One photo. Argle bargle.

    I guess it’s my poor man’s system.

I love wordpress, and the support staff really do try to help troubleshoot, but I feel endlessly frustrated with my blogging time used up for such painful issues as posting a photo.

I am gonna guess, geurro from my own problems and experience, its the changing of font styles, sizes , etc in a single post. Thats what I had problems with early on.
You may just stay with one color and font type per post, for a while.

I used to have a poetry blog with lots of jazzed up fonts.

Its really handy to hold the shift with enter at the end of a line of poetry.

    shift +enter is a linebreak.
just enter is an end of paragraph.

I’ll give it a whirl. Thanks.

Anyone care to chime in why I cannot get pictures to go where I want it? Is there some magic series of steps I can follow so I can put my cursur where I want it, and then have the photo actually land in that spot?

  • guerro, what web browser are you using? What are the exact steps you are taking to insert images into a particular place in a post? It works fine for me in every browser I have tried.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Internet explorer.

I can not do as you do. I simply will not work. I say insert, and it always goes to the top.

I copy and past it where I want it. If it’s a single photo, or I am staking them, that seems to work, except the cursur always goes to the bottom left, and I need to view site to see if I indeed got a space between photos or not. Always on the lower left, and click always moves the picture above it up.

If I need to put photos side by side, it jams then together. Sinse the curser is on the lower left, I click, and sometimes it will move the photo one space to the right, sometime it will automatically stack them, but I never know which will be on top until I got to view sight.

Also, the fact that the photo always goes to the top leaves behins a code even after i cut and paste, and that needs to be deleted.

If I post next to a phot that has been ther before this abominable change, I goes right where I want it.

    So, what gives here?

In addidtion, the new thumbnails are not the same size as the old ones, and now I have photos posted of differnt sizes.

Sorry, first line there should say ”IT simply will not work”.

  • Unknown's avatar

Which version of Internet Explorer? The different versions behave very differently in some respects.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m 90% computer illiterate. Where do I find the version info?

  • Unknown's avatar

If you have a standard menu showing in Internet Explorer (file, edit, etc.), look under Help > About Internet Explorer.

That may help them figure out whether there’s a problem that they can reproduce. (By the way, the latest version of Internet Explorer is 7. There may be things that work in the new version, but not in the version you’re running.)

I’d recommend downloading the current version of FireFox (2.0.0.14, available here), and seeing if the problem still happens when using FireFox.

And is there any reason for not getting IE7? It was pushed out by Windows update a while back. Also have you run the stand virus/spyware scans?

I have tried all morning to post one photo, but keep getting the blank white window after hitting post. This usually means flash is not installed, so I re-installed it, but to no avail. I have now re-installed it several times, and still cannot post a photo, and now my blogging time is up again.

I’ll try again when my WP meltdown subsides.

I tried downloading the firefox but for unknown reasons it didn’t take.

I have zero money to pay somebody to help me figure all this out, and I have zero money to get spyware, anti-viru updates, or any other gadget, bell or whistle that will presumably make this work.

What is IE7? Is it free? Is it easy to install? Will it make my problems go away, or is it just another song and dance that works on one computer, but not another?

    At my wits end

IE 7 is Internet Explorer. You can get it from your Windows Update page, just google it.

Try downloading Firefox again. It’s a great program.

And as for your image posting problem, don’t hit Insert into Post; just copy the URL you get and put it in using the Image Icon. That’s a VERY common error with IE6. Updating should help. If not, you’ve got the workaround and can go ahead and use the image icon to post.

Oye, I’ll bet money you’re infested with some sort of nasty. You do realize that there are effective and free antivirus and antispyware projects. Google Adaware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and Avast. I use that trio on my Vista and XP installations (along with Firefox) and they’re clean as a whistle. IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) is a free upgrade from MS. Make sure you have automatic updates are turned on. And if you’re not running XP Service Pack 2 (at a minimum) you *really* need to run Windows update. I’m holding off on SP3 for a few more months (that and I no longer use any flavor of Windows anymore).

Honestly though, you might be better off backing up everything and reinstalling Windows from scratch. Especially since you’re having flash troubles and Firefox won’t install.

I just did a reformat to rid myself of spyware.

    Update!!

I just installed firefox and WP is working beautifully!! Thank you!! Now I need another excuse to drink.

Thank-you Katm as well. I do need some free spyware as I do a lot of google research and have had 4 major infections already this year, which means 4 reformats. There’s gotta be a better way.

    Thank you again everybody.

    MArk this one resolved!

“There’s gotta be a better way.”

http://www.ubuntu.com/ <— very noob friendly version of Linux. I cut my teeth on it. I run no AV, no anti-adware/spyware, no software firewall (just the firewall in my router). The way the OS is set up (nothing done as an administrator by default) and the low market share means malware is extremely rare, especially on the home desktop front (servers are a slightly different matter, but still quite rock solid).

If you think you’ll be going to shady sites, you can use the LiveCD. It runs out of the memory (best with at least a gig of RAM) and doesn’t touch your hard drive.

Enjoy 20 more won from me :-)

If you need another excuse to drink you could always get into politics.
