Why is WordPress falling apart?

My question is – why is WordPress falling apart? I post daily and have done for a few years now. Over the last 4 -6 weeks problems have been growing. Uploading my post now always takes a very long time – “connection lost” etc… Also “Spell check” “Add media” and “Tags” fail to work – I try “saving draft” – this takes about ten minutes to complete, and then some of the above buttons ‘might’ work. My 1378th post this morning took me about 20 minutes to type out, and a good 40 minutes to get the page to work, and eventually upload… And yes, my internet is fine, I have looked at cookies, cleared caches, and restarted Firefox with add-ons disabled… I don’t want to move to another site, but I might if it is not sorted out soon.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble! Can you do me a favor and try another browser (like Chrome)? I’m unable to reproduce the page load times you specify in either Chrome or Firefox, but I’d like to see if the browser makes a difference on your side. Also, is this behavior reproducible across multiple machines (if you have access to another computer) or is it localized to your machine?

Of course, having just sent you that message – this morning everything worked fine, no buttons inoperative, today’s post even uploaded quickly at the first try – no waiting or ‘connection lost’ messages.
I only have the one machine. I’ll download Chrome (though I don’t like it) and give that a try soon and see if there is any difference…

Well, I’m glad everything is working correctly now! If you continue to experience trouble with any browser (even outside of Chrome), please let me know so I can investigate further.

I’m not sure “everything is working correctly now” – Some days it has been alright, some days awful – I’ll try posting my stuff using Chrome tomorrow and for the next few days – I’m optimistic! – I’ll let you know how it goes…

This morning I tried writing and posting using Chrome – no problems! and a nice quick upload! I strongly suspect that the culprit was Firefox. I have always used Firefox and have found it pretty reliable – they must have done a bit too much tinkering with it a month or two ago…

Great to hear Dave! I’ll keep a lookout for more Firefox-related errors and see if something larger is amiss. Let me know if you run into any more trouble.
