A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a teen named Matt who with his cohort, Mike, had just forked a blogging software called b2/cafelog. After a while they realized they couldn’t call it b2/cafelog any longer, so Matt asked a friend of his, Christine, who said, hey, how about WordPress?
You can read the full version, which is actually shorter than this, at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WordPress#History

Thanks JustJennifer. I also read that on wiki, but is there some meaning behind the name WordPress? Why is it WordPress? It could be WordBlog or BlogPress…etc.
-
Although @justjennifer has already explained how the name originated……………Have you heard of a “Printing Press” used for printing books etc? WordPress is the digital equivalent.
And “The Press” refers to people who publish news in magazines and newspapers. All the above contain lots of words so WordPress sounds like a logical choice for the company.

I guess Matt liked Christine’s suggestion. If you want to research this further, you’ve got the relevant names in the wiki citation. I seem to recall that she blogged about it at one point. :)
All the best.
