Why is WP inserting Material into My Blog?
-
Quite by accident, I discovered a WordPress Writing Tag page inserted into the middle of one of my posts tonight.
I’ve left it there for the time being, but I am quite displeased. Why are they inserting material into my blogs without permission or notification?
You can see the post here: Reading, Writing and Thinking: A Paradigm for Blogging
I have seen nothing in any of the terms of service that allows WordPress to modify the content of my blog. Any explanation?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. That image is hosted on varnishgal.com, a website that has nothing to do with WordPress.com. In fact, it’s not even a WordPress.org blog.
However, I noticed that you hotlinked several times a separator image from that website.
There. I’m just reporting the facts. Make what you want of it.

Oh wait. This gets better. The name that shows up in the “About the writer” section of your blog is the same as the name under which varnishgal.com is registered (according to a Whois query).
And you thought WordPress.com put that image there…

Contact staff right away, and change your password. It could be nothing, but it might be something.

What are you talking about? Varnishgal.com is my own site, where I host my photos – an ftp server associated with my own web page. And I am not talking about the header image, I am talking about the page that clearly says “Tags: Writing” with the wordpress logo about three paragraphs down the page.
I have been hosting my photos from varnishgal.com since I started at wordpress over two years ago. I am not hotlinking from someone else, I’m paying good money to maintain a separate site for my images.
Just the facts, indeed.

airodyssey – I would prefer that you stop hurling charges around in a public forum.
I am as serious as anyone around here about copyright issues, and to be quite frank, I find your tone completely unnecessary.I am just furious.

@shoreacres: Sorry if I offended you.
The image in question (http://www.varnishgal.com/writingblog.jpg) is hosted on your own domain name. But yes, contact staff if you are certain you did not insert it yourself.

The URL of that image is http://www.varnishgal.com/writingblog.jpg and it is hosted on your own site. WordPress didn’t put it in there, you did somehow.

Thanks rain – this is a real mystery. But, I’ve changed my password and will sort it out from here. Nice to show up on the writing tag page, anyhow.
airodyssey – No problem. I was a little upset to start with. Now I’ve got to figure out what I did. Much better that I caused the problem, even if I don’t know how I did it!

Now we’ve solved the whole mystery.
It was NOT wordpress that did it. I did it. I’ll not bore you with the details of how I managed to do it because there’s no glitch that would affect anyone else.
I do propose blogging rule #593: Geriatric bloggers with a history of memory lapses should double and triple check every single assumption before griping publicly in a forum.
Thanks, all. ;-)
