Why isn't HD default, or even available, for one of my videos?
-
I just uploaded a new video, about 36 minutes, and it looks great within my WordPress.com/Native VideoPress environment, but isn’t HD when embedded in my web site.
Here’s the raw file URL:
https://solacesystems.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/design-patterns-for-data-movement_full-presentation-video.mp4But embedded into my web site, at the same 700px wide as my other videos, it’s not defaulting to HD like all my other videos (per the setting). I even added hd=true to try to force HD and that’s not working either.
Here’s the new video that’s not HD:

Shortcode [wpvideo ObfOXnqi w=700 hd=true]Here’s one of many existing videos that defaults to HD, and provides the
HD symbol/selector in the top right corner of the player.

Hi there,
First, it looks like your site solacesystems.com is actually a self-hosted site, not running on WordPress.com. As a result, I’m limited in my ability to troubleshoot since I can’t access your site files. The WordPress.org support forums would likely be a better bet:
I was able to dig up a similar question here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/videopress-not-showing-toggle-for-hd?replies=8
In that case, it looks like the HD version of the video just took some time to show up. Since your original video is rather long, it may just take time before the HD video is created.

It’s been 3 days now and no HD version yet, so I’m no longer considering that a likely situation in my case.
Yes, solacesystems.com is self-hosted site. To reiterate what the guy in that other thread you linked said, VideoPress is a paid service that many managers of self-hosted.org sites use, and I think y’all should have a better response than pushing queries into the wild west of .org support forums.
I tried that though, to no avail. In fact, there’s only one thread about a similar problem, and somebody who seems to represent wordpress.com says to submit the issue to WordPress.com support system. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/can-not-get-hi-res-to-work-with-videopress
Little bit of a loop eh? I hope there’s something more you can do to help.

Hi!
I definitely don’t want to send you in a loop. Since I can’t access your media library and see the actual file, it’s just a bit difficult to troubleshoot. Do you have another video on your site that is similar in length (30+ minutes) that has an HD video format? I’m wondering if this is length-related.
Also, have you noticed if this is an issue only with larger videos like the following?
http://solacesystems.com/resources/videos/slow-consumer-handling-demo
http://solacesystems.com/resources/videos/data-movement-design-patternsI don’t see an HD option on those, but I do for the smaller video window like this:
