Why isn't my new media size showing up in the add media area?
-
I have changed my media size for large images, yet when I go to insert an image into a post, that size (in pixels) isn’t offered.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, would you mind showing me an example of an image that isn’t giving you the large option by linking to it in your media library so I can take a look?
One thing to keep in mind is that your original image will need to be at least as wide as the width you specified to be given that option. Thanks!

Thanks! I’m getting the large option when inserting this image into a post:

The large size created is less than the 576px you specified under Settings > Media, because your theme, Reddle, has a content column width of only 535px, which is narrower than your specified large size:

An image can’t be larger than the column in which it’s contained, otherwise the layout will break.
I hope this explains things – just let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi – I see what you mean by the column width. I’ve taken the media sizes down, so that Large is 535px by 401px however, it still is not an option when I go to insert an image.
The other strange thing is that when I insert a gallery, it is 587px wide. I added this one to your draft post.
I wonder if there is a problem with the theme?

Hi there, I think I’ve found the source of the issue. According to the theme information page here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/reddle/
The default layout for Reddle (seen above) is fluid. That means the layout will stretch to fill your browser window no matter the size. But if you add a Custom Header Image to your blog or a Custom Menu, Reddle will snap to a fixed layout.
Since you have a custom menu, your layout is now fixed.
The main column width in Reddle maxes out at 440 when the layout is fixed.
This explains why your images are being restricted to 440px wide, despite the settings under Media.

Wow! I am pleased you found the reason behind the restriction. That would be an easy fix, just to remove the custom menu.
However, I decided that I should try out another free theme, Fontfolio. So far, so good. At least I know what to do should I go back to Reddle.
Thank you again for your help. I think we can mark this one solved!
