Why isn't the "email transfer code" functionality working?

I would like to transfer my domain. I’ve read that I need to get a transfer code. I followed the directions on this topic and unlocked my domain and clicked the “email transfer code” button in the administrative panel. I have tried this for two days, but have not gotten an email.
-it is not in my spam folder
-i have verified the email address is correct
-i have checked my settings allow email notificationsWhat else should I be doing?

Thank you, I very much appreciate the response. This is a necessary step in a client project–is there any other way to accomplish the task, or do have a sense of whether or not this issue will be remedied in the near future? Thanks again.
