why isn't the revisions link showing in my drafts?

  • Unknown's avatar

i can’t find the revisions link on my drafts. i have a draft that has been revised and the revisions are being shown on the drafts page (in the blurb & photo that’s visible on the page with all of the drafts), but aren’t there when i open the draft. when i open the draft or choose preview, i see the original draft – all of my revisions and edits aren’t there.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are using the Beep Beep Boop editor.

re: locating drafts and post revisions
The classic editor retains 25 auto-saved post revisions but the new Beep Beep Boop editor does not. The post revision management system is not built into the new Beep Beep Boop editor, so saving the draft saves only the most recent version, but not previous versions.

In the new Beep Beep Boop editor the most recent version is saved only on your browser, and is not auto-saved to the servers for your blog unless you click the save link once.

If you are using the new Beep Beep Boop editor please read:

re: recovering a lost post or page
Please go to https://wordpress.com/post with the same browser and see if it offers to restore a post. If a restore button appears, that means a local copy was saved in your browser and you may be able to recover it.

If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Pages > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

To locate draft POSTS Dashboard > Posts > All Post > Drafts
    http://taraandkate.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post

To locate draft PAGES Dashboard > Pages> All Pages > Drafts
    http://taraandkate.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=page

(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)

If you cannot restore from your browser, or locate a revision, or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.

    I recommend:

    1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
If you have cookies enabled on your browser your preference will be saved unless or until your clear your cookies, and it will take you to the classic editor automatically every time you create a new post via the drop-down menu in the black admin bar or edit a post via the edit button on the blog itself.

You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

    2. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.

    3. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.

    4. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.

    5. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

ok, thanks timethief. i didn’t realize there was a different editor than the beep beep hoop editor, so that’s helpful.

i’m still not sure, though, why i’d be able to see the revisions i made to the post when i’m on the page that lists all of my drafts, but the revisions aren’t there any more when i open the draft or choose “preview.”

If you use the Beep Beep Boop editor to create poss there are no post revisions.

    i understand that – sorry if i wasn’t clear.

what i mean is that the updates i’ve made to the post – and saved while i was on it – are visible when i’m on the page with all of my drafts (that allows you to see a photo above the post title and the beginning few sentences of the post). but, when i click into the draft or choose preview, those updates are no longer there.

the fact that they’re visible on the drafts page makes me think they’re somewhere.

    Hi there,

Does that happen for all of your drafts or only one of them? If it’s only happening on one draft post, please let me know the title of the post and I can investigate that one specifically for you. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

it’s just happening with one draft. the name of the post is “stopping random lists of facts (or small groups to support standard 2 with informational text)”. thanks so much!

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks. :) It looks like you’ve made a number of revisions to this post, and it’s possible an older revision got saved over top of the recent changes you made.

You can review all of the revisions for that post from the WP Admin editor here:

    https://taraandkate.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=558&action=edit

In the Publish box there, you can click the “Browse” link next to Revisions to view all the past revisions of that draft. If you see the revision you’re looking for, you can also restore it from there. That way, you’ll see it when you edit and preview the post, too.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

that worked. thank you so much!

is there a way to find that page in the future on my drafts in case i have trouble with other updates/revisions showing up? my view of the drafts doesn’t show the link to revisions.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sure thing!

To get there from https://wordpress.com/ you can click on “My Sites” in the upper left, and then click on “WP Admin” in the sidebar to open the classic WP Admin dashboard. You can view a list of your existing posts (including your drafts) under Posts > All Posts.

From that list of posts, you can click on any post title to open it in the classic editor, and get to the list of revisions for each post that way.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

    perfect. thank you so much!
