Why isn't the slideshow option available/visible?

In this new photo editor, I can’t find the slideshow option anywhere. This feels archaic.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you upload images directly to the media library from Media -> Add New, you will need to attach them to a post or page before they will appear in a slideshow. Does this help? http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/#adding-a-slideshow

Apparently some kind of problem developed overnight with this and Staff is looking into it.
There are a few other threads also started around the same time frame.

Until the button comes back, you can simply type the following in your post or page after you’ve uploaded your images.
[slideshow]
