Why must visitors be logged in to see comments in the Recent Comments widget?

If visitors are not logged in, the Recent Comments widget is empty. If they are logged in they can see recent comments. I think this change happened recently. I don’t think I changed any settings on my blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oddly enough, the problem is not happening on todayorthatday.wordpress.com, another blog of mine – there I can see the recent comments even if I’m not logged in.

I’ve looked through all the blog settings but can’t seem to find any that would cause that. Am I missing something? If visitors have to log in to see recent comments the widget is useless to me.

    Thank you!

  • I put them back for you. :-) We had a glitch last week that caused issues with the widget that we fixed, but the fix wasn’t reflected on your site oddly.

If you have any other issues or have any questions, please let me know. Cheers!

Hmm – I am still only able to see recent comments if I’m logged in to WordPress.com. I log in, go to the blog, see them, log out, go to the blog, Recent Comments section is empty.

  • Sure enough. I could see them yesterday when logged out, but now that I look again, it has reverted back. Let me get the developer who made the fix to lay some eyes on this.

  • Let’s try this again. I’m seeing it again while not logged in on your site. We deployed a patch that should clear this up both now and into the future.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Now it’s working again. Thanks!
