Why my drafts are scheduling automatically?

  • Unknown's avatar

Why are my drafts automatically scheduling themselves? Since I changed themes to Zoren, my drafts seem to automatically get set to publish on the day I wrote the draft, without me selecting a date.

A few times now, I’ll open a draft, hit publish and it’s not showing the current date but rather the date the draft was written. All without me setting a schedule. Is there a fix for that?

    Thanks much,

That’s extremely weird. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thanks, timethief. I await the good word.

All drafts reflect the date they were created on and that date changes when they are edited. The more I think about what you said the less I think that this is an issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

I understand that the date changes with the edits. Or they used to.

What’s happening is I will go back to a draft and on the sidebar, the calendar image and “Publish: immediately edit” does not say that but rather shows the date of the original draft. This is something new that’s only happened recently. I have to manually go in and change the date and time to the current date and time, then Publish, otherwise it shows up on my blog days in the past.

I know there are constant updates to WordPress. Perhaps it’s a feature of Zoren I’m not familiar with??

Okay then that is weird for sure and I don’t know if it’s a theme related issue or not. Staff will assist you as soon as they deal with all the threads that were posted before this one was posted.

    Hi blogdramedy,

I’ve tested this, and it is not an issue with the Zoren theme. It looks like it happens when you have multiple drafts of a post – in some cases, it reverts to the first draft date for the default, though not always. I’m unable to reproduce this behavior when making new posts, however, so I can’t pin it down.

If you notice the pattern for when it does or does not give you the “Publish Immediately” option, that would be very helpful.

Thanks for checking. I’ll keep my eye on it the next few days and if it happens again, I’ll send details. So, if we could keep this thread open for a while?

    Thanks again.

    Hi blogdramedy,

Absolutely. If you can pinpoint a pattern (if it only happens when you do X, or doesn’t ever happen when you do Y), then that would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

Okay. So this happened again. Today I went to hit publish on this post in my drafts:

Have pens color-coded to your anxiety levels? You may be a perfectionist

It’s saying “publish on” August 7, @23:04 which is the date I wrote the first draft.

It does not say “scheduled” but still has the button “Publish”

I do have quite a few revisions so maybe this is causing the problem?

If I want to post this, I have to change it to today’s date and pick a time otherwise it shows up well back in my posts.

    Suggestions? Advice?

    Thanks.

    Hi blogdramedy,

Thanks for letting me know. I’m still not clear on when this does, or does not happen. Have you seen draft posts that have been written prior to the day you wish to publish that have the current date on them?

  • Unknown's avatar

It happens intermittently. I do have draft posts with the current date in my drafts right now that were written weeks ago. And if I published them right now, it says Publish immediately.

This morning is when I noticed it said, “Publish Aug. 7 @23:04” but it was not scheduled. The button on the lower right did not say “Scheduled” it said, “Publish.”

It doesn’t happen on every draft which is why this is difficult for me to figure out.

I am now having the same issue with another blog I run: nudgewinkreport.wordpress.com.

I took a screen shot so if there is an email I can send the image to, you can see exactly what the issue is on the Publish tab.

    Hi blogdramedy,

You can just upload the screenshot to your media library (no need to publish it), and let me know which associated blog it’s on, and I’ll take a look.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay. I’ve loaded it to the media library on nudgewinkreport.wordpress.com

Let me know what you think’s happening.

    Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve also added a screen shot of what I normally see when I’m editing a post to the media file on nudgewinkreport.wordpress.com.

Hope these images help solve the issue. Thanks.

    Hi again,

I can definitely see the issue, and I see it in my own test blogs. What I cannot determine is the pattern here – what causes some posts to show “publish immediately” but not all of them? Age of draft and number of revisions doesn’t seem to matter, as I have some old ones that still say “Publish Immediately” and others that have the original date.

Until we can figure out the pattern and what triggers a post to show an old date, I’m a bit at a loss for what to suggest. For now, I’m afraid I’ll just have to request that you update your publication date on publication, or set the posts as scheduled posts for a future date.

In the meantime I’ll keep an eye on this as well and see if I can figure it out on my end.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay. Will do. Glad it wasn’t just me!

Thanks, and good luck with the investigation.

Hi there. Wondering if you’ve had any success with this issue? All was fine for the past month but today I noticed it happening again…saying the post is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 17:40 pm.

The only thing I noticed that I had to do (which I don’t normally) is a message came up saying the post version in my browser is different than the backup and to restore. Which I did. Then noticed the scheduling date. Perhaps there’s a connection?

    Thanks,
    BD

No, I haven’t been able to nail anything down on this one yet. Sorry I don’t have any updates for you. Thanks for keeping me posted, though!
