    @reinkscartridges: You can’t use plugins on WordPress.com

    @calledelorco, it may have to do with the transitioning of all custom domains to HTTPS, but I’ve tagged this for Staff input.

    If you are not already subscribed to the WPcom News Blog, I really suggest doing so.

    Hi again, this is tagged for Staff input. We’ll have to wait for them to reply.

    I’m afraid the issue is that Facebook does not have a system for merging the http and https version of their share counts.

    So, I have dug into this a bit more and have found some updated information. FB will eventually update the share counts automatically, but we have no control on how long that takes.

    If it is important enough, you can run each post/page through this:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

    …which should update faster.

    staff-ozmodiar – thanks for the additional checking and clarification.

    @calledelorco I just noticed that you mentioned twitter. twitter announced several months ago that they were changing their API and tweet counts would no longer be available, not here, not anywhere. So unless something changes on their end, we won’t be seeing tweet counts any more.

    Good catch JustJennifer!

    Yes, that is correct. The Twitter share counts were removed by Twitter themselves and WordPress.com can do nothing about it unless they reverse their decision.

    Hello again,

    I introduced all my blog posts in the “Open Graph Object Debugger” and it worked: I recovered all Facebook likes/shares. However today my social buttons (Facebook) have been suddenly to zero again and the tool no longer works. Any solution?

    For me, this functionality is essential to stay using your service. Thanks for your understanding.

    This is a known issue and is being worked on. Our apologies for any weirdness.
