why name change

  I was looking to upgrade but don’t like the change of name. Can there be any other way round this?

  Hi there,

  All our paid plans include the option to add a custom domain to your site, but you’re under no obligation to do that. If you want a paid plan, but prefer to stay on the free example.wordpress.com address, you’re welcome to do that.

  Just note that if you install plugins on the Pro plan, the example.wordpress.com address will change to example.wpcomstaging.com. The old version will still work, but the new version will appear in people’s browsers.

  This change is necessary for the site to work with plugins installed, and there’s no way to prevent that.
