Why no facebook thumbnail?

I’m helping someone with her wordpress blog as she travels for a few months…she has a free blog (https://travelingpastor.wordpress.com/), and I can’t figure out why no picture appears when she posts a link to her blog on facebook. I see that some folks have added a meta tag in the header file pointing to a specific image file, but am wondering if I can add meta tags when using the free version of the blog? Thank you for any assistance/answers!!

We have no control over the images that Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.
