Why no formatting in preview?

When I preview my draft there is no formatting, but the formatting shows in the text editor. Basic stuff – like carriage returns for paragraph changes, and bold/italic type – just don’t show in the preview. I don’t know how to troubleshoot this, but tried removing all the formatting, saving, and redoing it – didn’t resolve the issue. Cleared cache and cookies, didn’t resolve the issue. I seriously don’t feel comfortable publishing a post without knowing the formatting is intact.

Make sure you do have third party cookies enabled

The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.
If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

Thanks. Unfortunately, this doesn’t provide a resolution to the issue. Generally, I don’t experience this issue at all, and your information reinforces what my understanding was, and how I do expect the visual editor to work – and today it does not. Seems to simply ignore spaces between paragraphs entirely, even if additional spaces are entered.
Thank you for taking time to reply. I ended up posting, in spite of my irritation with the spacing issue. Every now and then, the visual editor just barfs up a hairball.

You may be correct. I only know I write directly, life and real-time, in the visual editor, in my browser. No amount of ‘enter’ or ‘shift enter’ or any method of putting a space between two lines is working on this blog today. lol. It’s very frustrating, and not at all my usual experience.
I tried removing all the formatting and doing it over. That didn’t help either.

Yes, and yes. Those suggestions were in the help files. Thank you for trying. I’m giving up on it, myself, and going outside to work in my garden. ;-)
