why no "leave a reply" on my first post?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there:

On my main page, under my very first post, there is no “Leave a reply” box like there is on my two other “About” pages. How do I turn this on so people can comment?

    Thank you for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have read through the Settings > Discussions section and everything is set to allow for comments. Yet no “Leave a reply” box appears for my recent postings. What to do.

  • Unknown's avatar

Is this the post you’re having trouble with:

    YES DEPOSIT AND YES RETURN

I see a contact form at the end of your post, and below that the comment box that starts with “Leave a Reply”. Are you still having trouble with this?

Hi Shawna! Thank you for reaching out to me. Reading through the help files, I found how to attach that comment box on my to posts. But it’s not quite the same as the “Leave A Reply” box that follows my two About pages. Can you explain the difference and how to harmonize between the two?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sure! The contact form sends you an email directly. This is usually good for sites where you want people to contact you about becoming a writer, or ask you questions about your area of expertise.

The comment section under “Leave a Reply” is a standard comments section like what you would see on many other sites these days. Users can comment and reply to each other on your site where everyone else can read them.

I would say, you really only need a contact form on a single page of your site. Usually on a contact page.

Comments you can have on every post and let your readers give their two cents! :)

    Does that clarify thing?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, it does.

So I want the standard “Leave A Reply” under everything. My two About pages are good that way. How do I get the “Leave A Reply” comment section under my blog posts? (Moderated, of course).

If you scroll all the way down here:

    YES DEPOSIT AND YES RETURN

You’ll see it at the very bottom. It’s already there! :)

You can control your comment moderation settings in Settings > Discussion:

    Hi Shawna:

I am more confused than ever. On your link — yes, the “Leave a Reply” is there.

However, if I go to “view” my site independently, then it is not there. What’s the secret sauce?

  • Unknown's avatar

I think you mean viewing the front page of your site here:

We don’t include comment forms on the recent posts page in order to reduce clutter on the page. There’s no way to add this, but if you find this is absolutely necessary for your site, you may want to consider a self hosted WordPress.org site:

I see. So if you click on the title, then you get the post as an individual page and then there you can leave a comment. That’s the way it works, right?

How can I choose a different font and size of my blog title “The Bernard Olcott Story?”

Yep! This is exactly right. :)

In order to change your font or font size, you’ll need the Premium plan:

Thank you. I like asking you questions! :) And I am getting there!

I will check out the plans as suggested.

How can I set up the front page (where my daily posts are) so that each post displays 2 paragraphs and the users need to click on a “Read More” link to open the full post? There they will see the “Leave A Reply” section below.

Also, in order to build traffic, I would like to build links to other websites, like newspaper articles and blog. Please could you direct to some explanations as to how to do that?

    I like asking you questions!

Great! I like answering questions! :)

You can do this using our More tags!

Does that show you how to do what you want?

    This is rocking my world!

Here’s my next issue: I have three “About” pages, but they are not very visible because they are hidden behind the untitled Menu button in the upper left hand corner. I would like to set them up as some kind of clickable links along the top of my page. I tried playing around with the Menu command along the left pane of the “Look and Feel” section, but was not able to convert them from their hidden positions. Any clues for me?

Unfortunately, this theme doesn’t support that. If you had the Premium plan, I could provide you with some CSS to add a label to that button.

Is there a way to put in a caption for a featured image? If I insert an image, I have the ability to add captions. But the images tend to be smaller so I want to go with the Featured Image approach which is big, bad, and bold!

  • Unknown's avatar

There are no captions for featured images, but you could always add a little something at the start or end of your post! You can stylize it a bit by making it italicized. Or you can make it a little smaller by using <small> tags around it like this:

    <small>Your caption goes here!</small>

Done. Shawna, as an expert, would you care to peruse my site and let me know of anything that I seem to be missing? Any little tweaks that I am apparently unaware of?

    I really appreciate your guidance!

I think it looks great! I love all the pictures. Really eye catching. :D
