I have made some post as password protected.recently i noticed that these post are showing up in my blog even though there is a “protected” beside the title of the post. And may i know if i had to select “publish”, “Draft” or “private” for those post i had added password? What is the difference?

There might be some confusion for you about the difference between a “password protected” post and a “private” post. Don’t worry took me a little while also.

Password Protected posts will be public if published, but only those with the password can read them. You can read more on this FAQ page:

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/post-options-post-password/

Private posts will not show up on the blog and are invisible to everyone but you. You can read more about this from this faq page:

    What is the Post Status?

[Edit: That last link above will also help clear up the difference between Draft, Published, and Private]

Thanks..i am really confused. I had just tried to password protect a post by entering a password and published it, but still, the post appears. It doesnt show a box for entering password.

Do you have an example you can link to so we can see it and help further? I can see a password box and a submit button on this post if this is the one you are working on:

[edit: you must have deleted it as this is gone now]

I also tried it on a test blog of mine and it worked ok. Did you try logging off of wordpress and looking at it as any normal user would?

Thanks for your help. I think i managed to get the hang of it now. WordPress gets kinda confusing at times.=)

    Thanks a million!

mimiyan: when you’re logged in and enter the password for the first time, it will continue to stay open for the rest of your time logged in. to check if it’s secure a simple logging out and viewing your blog page will do.
