Why Press-this stops functioning?
-
My Press This tool suddenly stops working. The pop-up form shows the image-link, but that does not respond to the click on the ADD button. The problem site is at http://www,puronokolkata.com. But the other testing site that I have at http://www.monolova.wordpress.com is still working fine with Press This tool. Can you please look into it and advise?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Hmm, that’s odd. I seem to be able to use the Press This bookmarklet on puronokolkata.com just fine. Here’s a screenshot of me selecting an image:

I would try two things:
1) Clearing out your cache and cookies and trying again:
2) Re-adding the Press This bookmarklet to your browser from the Tools page:
https://puronokolkata.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php
Let me know if that doesn’t work. :) Thanks!

Thanks Adamkheckler!
I cleared cash and cookies, and reinstated the bookmarklet afresh. Sadly, that did not work. Very strange indeed! Asok -

Asok,
Do you maybe have any pop-up blockers or ad-blocking extensions installed that might be preventing the window from operating properly? Sometimes browser add-ons like that can cause weird issues.
Maybe also try using the Press This bookmarklet in Chrome or Internet Explorer and seeing if it works there?
Sorry for all the weird suggestions; I’m just trying to narrow down what the issue could be here. :)
Let me know if any of those work. Thanks!

Hello Adam.
Following your suggestions, I deactivated some add-ons I set up recently, but that didn’t help. I also checked with Chrome browser. It behaves exactly the same way.As I had mentioned before, I have Monolova – an old site for my puronokolkata project, which is now being used for testing purpose only at http://monolova.wordpress.com/ The site has a Press-This button, and that works fine till now within the same environmental set up. Both of them are wordpress.com sites. They are dissimilar mainly in respect of Themes. Do you see any possibility of some unexpected change in the Theme code? Hope you would be able to crack the hard nut soon! Thanks – Asok

Asok,
Just to clarify, when you are using the Press This tool, are you clicking on the word “Add” itself, or clicking on the icons next to it?
http://droplr.adamheckler.com/Sxrp
In that screenshot, the word “Add” is circled and the buttons to actually add images or video have arrows pointing to them. The buttons are the things you want to click.
I just want to make sure this is what you’re trying to do. :)
Let me know!
-
Adam,
It is always the button and not the word Add that I click on, not only here but in two other of my wp.com sites. – Asok -
Asok,
I asked some of my colleagues to help me test this issue, and none of them could reproduce it at all.
Are you sure there’s no security software or anything that could be blocking the JavaScript on that site in particular? It’s odd that it’s just happening on that site only.
Let me know! Thanks!
-
Adam,
There is nothing, so far I understand with my limited knowledge that might act as a blocker targeting this specific site. You may, however, advise me if there are particular ways to ensure that.
I have now a strong feeling that the problem is lying with the theme. As my content development suffers irrecoverable loss, it is becoming indeed very frustrating for me. Waiting for an early solution from you and your team. Best, Asok -

I activated the Portfolio theme on my test site here: http://akhtestsite.wordpress.com/2013/07/12/test-post-for-email/
Can you go to the bottom of that post and try to use the Press This button? Let me know what happens!
Thanks! :)
-
Adam,
I don’t see any Press This button in your Test Site. There are 3 share buttons, 1 like button, and 1 for leave a reply and no other. – Asok -
Asok,
Hmm, it’s there for me: http://akhtestsite.wordpress.com/2013/07/12/test-post-for-email/
Here’s a screenshot: http://droplr.adamheckler.com/32ok
You don’t see the button there?
-
Adam,
No, I don’t see the Button when I open your test-page in my browser. Will kindly look into the CSS code of my theme or consult experts of Portfolio theme for solving the problem without further delay?
Good luck
Asok -
Sorry, Adam! My apology! It’s there very much, I see now. I didn’t realize that I should first click on the Portfolio Button at the top of your page to get the Press-This Button visible.
When I press Press-This Button, the Edit Form popped up and there I clicked on the Add Button to produce only two thumbnails, one was WP icon, the other a BLANK one. You may recall, the scenario is exactly the same as the original situation. We need to take a new turn, I suppose. Asok -
Adam,
I have successfully enabled my post-sharing button Press-This from setting> sharing for sharing posts of my own blog. It works fine. But when I re-installed the bookmarklet Press-This button from my Available Tools, it fails to grab bits of the web and shows a BLANK frame the same way as I experienced before. The gist is
• post-sharing Press-This button works
• bookmarklet Press-This button does not work as it fails to grab bits of the webIt is an interesting research. I would have enjoyed it, if not so hard pressed. It is okay, if solved by a day or two, otherwise consider transferring the issue to some other expert teams for quick solution. Please advice. – Asok

Hi Asok – Just to update you on this, as Sheri and David mentioned in the other thread, we’ve opened a bug report for this Press This issue. We’ll update you on this thread as soon as we have more information about it. Thanks for your report and your patience!

This issue in Portfolio theme has been resolved. Thank you all for bringing this up. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Asok,
Just for future reference, we also have a Portfolio theme-specific forum, which is here:
http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/portfolio
Feel free to post there if you find any additional problems with the Portfolio theme. That way the third=party developers will be aware and can look at how to create a fix.
Thanks for your patience on that! :)
