Why should I buy SSL Certificate from a reseller and not from the SSL companies?

    I don’t understand why are there so many resellers of SSL and so few companies that actually make them. Why should I buy from a reseller?

    Hi there @whateverittakes2016 –

    Is the site you’ve linked to whateverittakes2016.wordpress.com the site you need help with? If so, we cannot install SSL certificates for WordPressdotcom sites nor is there any need since all WordPressdotcom sites, both at the base wordpress.com address and running a custom domain are running on https already.

    If by chance you are referring to a site hosted elsewhere using the standalone WP software, you’ll want to ask your question over at the support forum for standalone WP https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username there, you can register one on that page.

    Standalone WP and hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are) are separate entities. This support doc explains a bit more: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You should by from a reseller because it is cheaper. Here is how it works.

    Certificate Authorities (i.e. the companies who produce SSL are interested in selling more certificates. That’s why they sell them at a cheaper price to resellers who sell them to clients. Also, resellers can offer a better customer support because they are smaller than the companies that create SSL Certificates

    In the end, customers get a cheaper SSL Certificate with a better customer support. I bought several certificates from a small company http://www.SSLDragon.com They are the kind of small company with a great customer support that I was talking about.

    @ifreakinglovemovies – Thanks for the Information about SSL resellers, which is relevant for owners of self-hosted WP installs.

    Regardless, we cannot upload any such certificates here on WordPressdotcom.
