why so many spam comments slipping past akismet today?

  why are so many spam comments slipping past akismet today? I’ve had to manually flag 30+ (and the were obvious)

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Howdy!

  Across all Akismet users, we’ve not seen any spikes in missed spam recently. It sounds like your site probably got targeted by a newer spammer so you got a spike. ~30 missed spam comments isn’t really indicative of a large-scale issue, especially at your higher level of traffic.

  Sorry for the annoyance, but thanks for flagging them! Every little bit helps to stop the next bit. :)

  Thank you Alex.
  But Akismet should have caught those. They had all the classic earmarks.
  (And it was closer to 75, in a two-hour window.)

  Others will be ‘targeted’ by this ‘new spammer’, I wager. So I hope someone there is watching.

  We are. :)

  I’ve reviewed all the missed spam reports that you submitted and Akismet would definitely not be clearing those now. If you see any others make it through, please continue to mark them as spam. Each time you do, we get a report that can be used to improve accuracy for your site.

  In the interim, I’ll keep an eye on your stats to see if anything needs adjustment.
