Why sometimes theme name is not mentioned at bottom of page?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I see a blog whose look I like, I scroll down to see which template/theme it is. Sometimes the name of it is not there, even if it seems to be a regular ThisIsMyBlog.wordpress.com type of blog, not an .org or anything special.

Why is it that sometimes the blog name, like for example, Choco, or Vigilance, is missing?

Hi. Do you have an example of such a blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, no, not right this second, but once in a while when I scroll down to the bottom of a blog that has a nice look, I notice that it has no theme/template name. I suppose I will have to go through the WordPress blogs one by one. ….

If they remove the links in the footer and staff find out, they will likely tell them to put them back since that is not allowed here. If they do not put them back then their site might get deleted or suspended.

Ah now I understand. I was not aware that theme names can be taken off the home page.

They can be taken off via CSS, but it is not allowed.

This is clearly stated in the custom design upgrade entry >

May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

Though the theme name isn’t mentioned in that entry what them is being used is no mystery even if it has been CSS edited. If you are on a WordPress.com site and you hover over the gray navigation bar “Blog Info” and a dropdown menu will appear. Note that the last item in it is the name of the theme being used.

Ah, @TT, thanks for that. I hadn’t noticed that on the blog info dropdown.

OMG, when I do that on the forums pages, it reports it is Kubrick!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes that’s what it says in the forums … lol :D

Another clue that one is viewing a WordPress.com blog is the tiny smiley face for stats.

OH, I just now looked at a blog and it says “Bueno.” Well, since Bueno is one of my favorite looks, I can spot it in a second, as I can also spot Vigilance, Misty Look, and a lot of others. But still there are some that have been improved upon or creatively rendered, and I want to know what theme they worked on.

I love the wide variety of templates on WordPress.

Sacred Path said: OMG, when I do that on the forums pages, it reports it is Kubrick!!!

But… I recall reading last year that the new blog theme for WordPress was 2010. So then why does it report the old information, Kubrick?

You know, Kubrick might be wonderful in a whole lot of flexible, useful ways, but it seems so uneventful……

By the way, I have gotten used to the fact that with CHATEAU I can have only one post. I like it now. And I have about thirty posts in the Archives below the one page post. I earlier had upped it to fifty, but it occurred to me that at such a high amount, it might take longer for readers to actually get the home page uploaded and ready to be read.

Was I wrong? I would have a lot of posts there if it made no difference in upload time.

The base theme used for the forums must have been Kubrick and it is still being reported that way.

I typically suggest about 10 in the double columns below a full-width featured image. On my site I have 8 showing on the main page, but I don’t have any “featured” post at the top. I used 8 so it would be about the same length as the stuff in the sidebar.

I might suggest cutting your site back to 20. Thirty seems a long scroll.

OK– I just now changed the archived articles to show 20 articles. :-) Thanks for the tip. Now I am going to find your blog. AS I recall it was the one that starts out as a blue beach scene. But what is the URL?

And after I hit Submit I realized that I could get to your blog by clicking your name there in the left sidebar. I guess you changed your theme from that beachy scene to Inuit Types! :-)

    @lornakismet
I’m glad to see the issue in this thread was been resolved yesterday. Will you please mark it as “resolved” in the OP?

OK. I just now toggled to Resolved. :-)
