Why the feautered images are not appearing in the featured content

Please dear team of wordpress please help me understand how to fix this. I’m using TWENTY FOURTEEN theme. And I wanna use the
‘Featured Content and Featured Images’ that can be featured in the HOme page, I choosed the grid layout, I used the “featured” post tag as the instructions told me to do…I was testing it before making my site visible, but please I need to understand how to use this, because I dont know what else to do so the pictures can appear like this: http://theme.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mobile-view.png

Hey @souldestructionblog I tried all that said in the link you gave me thank you but it didn’t work. I made 6 tests of posts and put to all of them sticky post and then checked on the main page and still they didn’t appear, so eventho one of the users said that for this to work you should use just sticky and take out the featured tag I put the featured tag as well with the sticky post and that didn’t work either. So I don’t know anymore what im doing wrong. I wanna know if I will be able to work with this theme before writting anything else. Thank you so much for the help.

I know what I was making wrong! I went to: customize your blog and discovered that I had the front page displays as a static page anyways I changed to ‘your latests posts’ and wala! it works now. Thank you for all. XD
