Why the scarlet letter?
-
I have a big triangle “warning” on my dashboard, visible to all, that warns my blog is not visible to search engines. I already knew that, as I chose this setting. Can someone tell me how to turn this off? It’s no one’s business what settings I chose, and it’s ridiculous that an annoying white triangle is there to “alert” everyone.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t have that red triangle on my dashboard but I have a helpful little lock icon on the top left hand side of the Admin bar on my private blogs and I like it.
-
Oops! I typed red triangle and meant to type white triangle. To be honest I cannot comprehend why this icon this bugs you. Who can see it on your private blog except you?

If I’m the only one who can see it, that’s marginally better. But it’s distracting. It looks like a notification because it’s bright against the black dashboard. I want to know how to get rid of it.

Hi again,
I can’t see it here http://inthebarberry.wordpress.com/Please post screenshot, upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it and respond. I tagged this thread for their assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Hi Timethief – wow those screenshot insturctions were great, thanks. Here it is, the triangle is next to the “new post” on the right hand side of the dashboard in the screenshot.

It is a warning telling you that your blog is hidden from search engines. Meaning it is not being indexed for search results.
Click on the triangle. It will take you to Settings -> Reading page and you can switch “Site Visibility” from “Discourage…” to “Allow…” then save changes.
The triangle should go away.
If you do not want your blog post being listed in search results, then you will need to leave it how it is.

No one is pressuring you to do anything. :) The site is yours and if you don’t want search engines from indexing the site – that’s completely fine. It really doesn’t make a difference to us which setting you prefer.
As for the triangle, if it’s hindering you from doing anything on your Dashboard, please let me know and I’ll have our team look into it.

I appreciate it – the triangle is now an eyeball, LOL. No idea why. It’s a bit better. Because (I think I mentioned this in an earlier comment) the triangle was distracting as it looked like a notification “light up” from the corner of my eye.
I was also just hoping for an explanation – why now, after a number of years, add this icon into the dashboard?
-
It’s just a icon letting you know that your blog is hidden. Some users make their blogs hidden for a short period of time before their site is ready to launch. So the reminder lets them know of this.
If it’s really bothering you, you can remove it with Stylish through CSS. Here’s the info for Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/
And for Google Chrome:
