why there is continues numbering in comments?

  Hi,
  I just wondering in order to develop comments in a website, why in the id’s of the comments in WP are numbering? I understand why there is a class for comment/child comment but why every comment need a unique id? maybe to choose show/hide?

  WordPress blog information goes into a MySQL database. Databases require unique identification for each record. If it did not have those, wordpress know where to put posts or comments or pages etc.
