Why to regiter a domain?
-
“The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plug-ins.” with this thumb rule why should i register a domain under word press? I cant have ads neither i can have new themes or plug-ins but i see other word press having new themes and uploading plug-ins? how they are doing? there are so many websites that says free themes for word press and even after upgrading i cant even at least change my theme than what others are doing and why word press so adored?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The domain mapping upgrade simply allows you to have your blog at something like http://optimizingengine.com/ instead of http://optimizingengine.wordpress.com/. Also you can take this domain with you if you later decide to switch from a wordpress.com hosted blog to a self-hosted wordpress.org blog. The latter will allow you to use any plugins, themes, and to advertise.
Probably the blogs you saw were self hosted wordpress.org blogs.

Thanks tandava108 but if .org is so good about plugins and all than why wordpress.com? I dont know why i started doing it here in wordpress may be i saw .com and i dint wanted .org thinking wordpress.org cant provide .com …..is that so? if not i would shut down here and start at org…..is it possible?

WordPress.com is a multi-user blogging platform. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload plugins into them.
If you tell us what you want to achieve with plugins we may be able to provide a workaround.
WordPress.ORG is stand alone software. There is FTP access and plugins can be used on that free standing software. See here for a complete explanation of the differences between the two > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

The benefits of registering a domain and purchasing domain mapping for your WordPress.COM blog are found in this post http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/06/26/how-and-why-to-get-your-own-domain/

Hello timethief,
All i am concerned is about when i go for domain mapping and after that i wont get better themes and plugins than it wont make me happy…..wordpress.org i hear is complex thing and needs CSS and XML knowledge which i dont have much…so i want to stick here in .COM but i need better themes and atleast some facilities so that i can optimize my blog with seo vitamins and i see i cant even make change in meta description…. :(

I think I remember reading meta died years ago and is no longer important.
Most blogs just need a good header and usually things fall into place. I wish I could have access to my template so to change the appearance a bit. But we can’t but maybe one day we can. I know I could make a living wage with my blog but I can’t because then my personal information will be revealed and put me in actual danger. So I gave up on having ads a year ago and moved on. But most bloggers don’t make that much money at all unless they have a few thousand hits a day. And maybe that might be able to just barely pay the hosting fees if you self-hosted. So unless you have thousands of hits, then forget about it and stay here at .com.
You shouldn’t self-host unless you know how to or if you have the money to pay a webmaster. And no one goes to a blog to see how pretty it looks. Just don’t blend the text color with the background and you should be fine. Make yourself a header and just work on updating your blog and building your audience.

Well, i don’t know about your Google but in mine meta works fine! And i was talking about meta description not only from seo point of view but it helps visitors in the search result about what i do in my blogs….i dont have “seo work ?? !! 21/85/9 have been doing” kind of things to appear and people say”WTF” anyways thanks for you suggestion i will find some other way but i don’t think i will stop because many bloggers failed.
Regards, for members time and effort. I appreciate!

Please note that if you choose to purchase a domain and the domain mapping upgrade that’s all you get.
Before Upgrading – Important Notes
Same Rules Apply – The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required abide by our Terms of Service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/ -

We cannot access the files for meta data on this multiuser blogging platform but in the final analysis that does not matter. You are working on outdated information. See what Matt Cutts of Google says here. Google doesn’t use the “keywords” meta tag in our web search ranking. This video explains more>

You’re getting all hung up on things. Just ask yourself this:
WHY do you want the domain mapping upgrade?
It sounds to me as if you literally don’t. Domain mapping is crucial for anyone who wants to build a brand or persona online, but if those are not your priorities, then it’s irrelevant to you.
If you want ads, you have to find another host. If you want javascript, you need to find another host.
